Okay, what literally gives you the chills when you walk down the street? Where would you, as a woman, rather walk with your keys clenched between your fingers, just in case? Well, certain cities are very dangerous for tourists, it turns out. So definitely don't book your city trip here.

And we spoil it already: Mexico is not the safest country to move to.

1. Caracas, Venezuela
Caracas tops the list of the most dangerous cities in the world due to high crime rates. The city faces a serious problem with violent crime, including murders, robberies, and kidnappings. The political instability and economic crisis in Venezuela contribute to the insecurity.

2. Obregón, Mexico
Obregón originated as a railway station in 1907 and was formally founded in 1928, making it one of the youngest cities in Mexico. The city is named after the president Álvaro Obregón, who was murdered in 1928. It starts off badly, to say the least.

3. Port-au-Prince, Haiti
Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, is a city with a rich history and a unique culture. Unfortunately, it is also known for its high crime rates and political instability.

4. Zamora, Mexico
Oh, oh, Megicoooo… It’s a bit less pleasant than that song suggests. Zamora in Mexico also ranks high on the list of dangerous cities: many criminals, many robberies, weapons, and drugs. Not pleasant.

5. Manzanillo, Mexico
Manzanillo, like many other parts of Mexico, faces crime, including violent crimes. The city is a strategically important port and a transit point for illegal drug trafficking, which has led to an increase in violence and crime in the region.

6. Tijuana, Mexico
Tijuana is a notorious city due to the drug wars raging there. The violence between rival drug cartels often leads to shootings, kidnappings, and murders. The city also deals with a high rate of street crime and robberies.

7. Juárez, Mexico
Ciudad Juárez, like Tijuana, faces extreme levels of violence due to the drug wars. The murder rate is extremely high, and the city struggles with issues such as human trafficking, drug trafficking, and corruption.

8. San Pedro Sula, Honduras
San Pedro Sula has one of the highest murder rates in the world. Gang violence, drug trafficking, and armed robberies are widespread. The city is often associated with Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) and Barrio 18, two of the most violent gangs in Central America.

9. Cape Town, South Africa
Oh, I love Cape Town, but Cape Town is a city with a double face: beautiful landscapes and high crime. Especially in the townships and some suburbs, the risk of violent crime such as robberies, carjackings, and burglaries is high.

10. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Rio de Janeiro is a popular tourist destination but also has a dark side regarding safety. Violence from drug trafficking, street crime, and robberies is widespread, especially in the favelas.

11. Detroit, United States
Born in the USA? Well, then rather anywhere but Detroit, it seems. Detroit faces high crime rates, including violent crimes such as robberies, assaults, and murders. The economic decline has led to social problems and an increased risk of crime.
