This Netflix doc teaches you that it's better to stay friends with your ex

It is the Netflix documentary that everyone is talking about right now. I already wrote about why it is nice to hate your ex, but that in the long run it is better to end things positively together. The ‘hate’ we feel for an ex is nowhere near as extreme as with the people in the new Netflix documentary ‘Worst Ex Ever’. As the title suggests: these exes are truly many times worse than you can imagine. Stalking, threats, aggression, these exes spared nothing after the relationship ended. They are capable of anything. Yes, even the worst you can think of: murder.
In four episodes, we see the stories of four different people who ended up in such a hellish situation because ‘the ex’ completely lost it. In some cases, the victim unfortunately can no longer recount how it was for them. For them, the worst imaginable scenario has truly become reality. It is very important that such a documentary is streamed on a large platform like Netflix, because femicide is a huge problem that unfortunately has too little visibility. In some cases, women do not dare to reach out to authorities, such as the police, because they still feel a kind of loyalty to their husband or ex. Of course, you have shared a whole life together, you know everything about each other. Or so it seemed, because in the documentary we also hear that women wondered ‘who on earth did I marry?’
It still happens too often that women are not taken seriously when they do dare to pick up the phone and inform the authorities. It has also happened in the Netherlands that women were murdered because the police did not see their cry for help as urgent right away. Somehow, a whole file needs to be built up with incidents like threats, and stalking is still a difficult crime to prosecute. The fact that it happens all over the world is probably also the reason why this documentary has such an impact. Definitely a must-watch, even though it is too horrific for words.
