City Trips

Two hours from Berlin you will find this much cooler (and cheaper) city

By

Yes, Berlin is urban, graffiti, cool and has an artistic vibe. Hipster coffee, that idea. A cool bar everywhere, or should we say: that's nice. Lit. But Berlin can also be expensive. If you want to stay overnight and go out well, it will cost you hundreds of euros.

Berlin is known for its rich history, vibrant culture, and bustling nightlife, but did you know that just two hours away lies a city that is just as fascinating, but a lot cheaper?

Drive a little further, because just two hours away you will find the equally cool Leipzig. Leipzig is now known as a breeding ground for creativity and innovation. The Plagwitz district, once an industrial area, is now a trendy and lively neighborhood full of art galleries, trendy cafes, and small, unique vintage shops. Artists and creative entrepreneurs have transformed abandoned factories into dynamic workspaces and cultural centers, giving the neighborhood a unique and alternative vibe. For a dose of modern art and to soak up some culture, a visit to the Spinnerei is a must. This former cotton factory complex is now one of the largest art centers in Europe and houses numerous galleries, studios, and exhibitions. Here you can discover works by emerging and established artists, as well as participate in creative workshops and events. You can score oat milk everywhere, don't worry. It's definitely the place to be for yuppies and vintage lovers. You can dine coolly and of course party deep into the night in a brown pub or in a club.

Leipzig is also a green city with plenty of parks and recreational areas where you can relax and enjoy nature. Clara-Zetkin-Park is a favorite among locals and offers a perfect spot for a picnic, a quiet walk, or a bike ride. The many lakes around the city, such as Cospudener See, are popular spots for swimming, sailing, and sunbathing during the warm summer months. And it's more affordable than Berlin, that's for sure. Eating and drinking will definitely cost you less – and your stay too. From traditional German dishes in a cozy beer garden to international cuisine in one of the many trendy restaurants, Leipzig has so much choice. And you'll have money left over. That German beer on the terrace tastes just a little better, doesn't it?
