Forget Rome and Venice
This Italian town is at least as nice

Figuratively speaking, because forgetting Rome and Venice would be a cultural crime, but you also want something different in life. So here’s my tip: go to Verona. It relates to Venice like Haarlem (these are my favorite spots) relates to Amsterdam. Haarlem) It’s smaller, but therefore also a bit less crowded. Even the little balcony where Romeo supposedly held his serenades for Julia in the 13th century is not such a tourist trap as you might think. Sure, there are people, but it’s not overcrowded and not pushed into caps. Furthermore, Verona has trendy wine bars and of course the beautiful amphitheater that is right in the city and where you can attend the most beautiful concerts and operas.
Another huge plus of Verona is the beautiful vineyards and thus available wines that are nearby. Especially the amarone is my favorite; you can also order it in half-liter bottles there. Ideal for lunch.

Verona is the backdrop of three Shakespeare plays (Romeo and Juliet, The Taming of the Shrew, and The Two Gentlemen of Verona) and the Capitolare Library is the oldest library in the world that still serves as a library.
Our colleagues from Italiamo.nl wrote about what you can do in Verona.
There are many beautiful squares and narrow streets, it has a vibrant nightlife and you can of course – because it’s Italy – shop wonderfully. And you can easily drive on to Padua, also lovely lovely lovely and then still do the polonaise, because extremely crowded, in Venice.
