Warning: this is what happens when you sell too much clothing on Vinted

By

Among my friends, I am known as a shopaholic. And in a way, I do agree with them a bit. I get a sort of dopamine boost when I receive a DHL notification that my package is on its way, so you understand: quite a lot comes in. But what I am also good at is saying goodbye to my belongings. Perhaps a hot take, but as soon as I see too many people wearing an item that I also have hanging in my closet, I no longer find it fun. Then I prefer to throw it on Vinted ASAP, and with a bit of luck, I can still get a nice amount back for it. With that extra pocket money, I buy something new again, and so the cycle continues.

At least, until recently. Selling your items endlessly on Vinted is unfortunately no longer as easy as it used to be. Because you don't have to pay taxes on Vinted, you can earn a lot of money if you sell a lot. Initially, this wasn't monitored very strictly, but the Vinted watchdogs have become much more meticulous about it now.

Here's how it works: if you earn more than 2000 euros annually through Vinted or make at least 30 transactions per year, your details will be sent straight to the Tax Authorities. This is considered a full-fledged income, and of course, this must be taxed. Quite logical.

Should you now worry about a blue letter on the mat because you thoroughly cleaned out your closet last month and sold more than thirty items for two euros each? No, not that. Selling second-hand is usually not profitable because you probably sell it for a lower price. You only run the risk if you make a lot of profit from selling items with an original price. If you don't adhere to this? Then you will likely receive a nice bill from the Tax Authorities at the end of the year.

Oh, and if you want to be completely blocked by the app, then you should definitely start your own kind of trade with handmade items or items that are resold. According to Vinted's catalog rules, you then become too commercial as a seller and might as well start your own webshop elsewhere. So try to keep it strictly to selling your old clothes for a relatively sweet price.

Are you not such a passionate seller but rather a buyer? With these tips, you will find the real gems among all those millions of items.
