Just a 4-hour flight and nearly 30 degrees: Gran Canaria

This week I made the best decision of the year, and I am so happy about it that I obviously want to share it with you. Are you also suffering from a winter dip or just have a huge need for sun and/or vacation? Then I have the ultimate tip for you, which is affordable and super close.
When you want to seek the sun in January, you probably mainly think of the Dutch Antilles, or for example Dubai… Just a bit of a flight and especially quite expensive (the tickets, hotels, but also the cost of living there). No, then you better fly to Gran Canaria; it is now extremely warm for this time of year.
And I really mean warm: today it is a bit cloudy and 26 degrees, but this coming Friday (when I fly, love it) it will be 28 degrees and the day after even 29 degrees. Sorry, but that sounds heavenly, right? I have never been to Gran Canaria, but some research quickly showed that it is quite a beautiful island. You even have a piece of dune, called Dunas de Maspalomas – with a dose of imagination, you can feel a bit like you are in Dubai or Oman?
You can stay in the capital Las Palmas, but I chose Maspalomas: a bit quieter and slightly less touristy. Although you don’t have to worry too much about tourism around this time of year, because it is still just January.
Almost all restaurants are indeed open; they have kept their winter break short due to this bizarrely beautiful weather. The tickets are also very affordable via Transavia or TUI, and the accommodations are similarly priced. So the ideal winter trip doesn’t have to be expensive this year.
