Barcelona: the best spots in 2025

Barcelona will always be a good idea for me. A two-hour flight, the best food, a unique mix of beach and city, and that breathtaking architecture around you. After a three-year intermission, I was there again recently and, spoiler alert: I was once again smitten and in love. These are my favorite spots right now that you don't want to miss!
1. Bar Cañete – authentic, cozy, and full of locals
My absolute favorite remains Bar Cañete (Carrer de la Unió, 17). This restaurant exudes classic Spanish vibes: packed with Spaniards, cheerful waiters, divine food, and the best wine of the whole trip (and believe me, we did our best). It's the ultimate place for tapas with character, a bit like Le Garage used to be, but Spanish. Tip: definitely make a reservation in advance, as it is always packed.
2. Eating on the beach at Chiringuito Escribà
Not all beach bars are the same, but I got this tip from someone who was proposed to there (so, trust guaranteed!). Chiringuito Escribà (Av. del Litoral, 62) is a gem. The vegan paella is greener and tastier than ever, and the atmosphere is relaxed and casual. Perfect for a summer lunch with your feet in the sand.
3. Sleeping at Sir Victor: hip & historic
For a stay that is just as stylish as your daytime program, I recommend Sir Victor. This hotel is a ‘branch’ of the famous Sir group (think of Sir Albert in Amsterdam). Hip, clean, cozy, and with a rooftop where a DJ plays in the evening. Plus: the cocktails are to die for. Fun fact: the hotel is named after Caterina Albert i Paradís, a powerful Catalan writer who wrote under the male pseudonym ’Victor‘. In her honor, you'll find a library in the hotel full of books by and about powerful women.
4. What you better not do: topless bus tour
We tried the topless bus, hoping to explore the city nicely in the sun. Unfortunately: expensive, and it took an eternity to get to Camp Nou — which is personally not a highlight for me. My tip: want to go to Camp Nou? Take a taxi and save time and money. The bus ride through a boring suburb was unfortunately not that glamorous.
5. Definitely do: a guided Gaudí tour
What I do recommend with love is a guided tour of Gaudí's masterpieces. We were taken by a nice guide through atmospheric alleys and squares to the Sagrada Família. The stories and the atmosphere make it really special. Don't forget to score a pair of espadrilles: Barcelona has the best shops for these summer favorites!
