Buy the wine Máxima drank on Tuesday here

William Alexander Maxima and Trump laughing

On Tuesday, our little country was the scene for a parade of world leaders. From Donald Trump to Zelensky and everything in between. How proud we can be of our royal family when you see how they open their palace to these guests with such care and dedication - right down to the guest room, as President Trump lay contentedly between the linen sheets.

Earlier I wrote an ode to Máxima's outfit - In a word: class - which you can also buy yourself. But today we focus on something else royal: the wine that Máxima drank on Tuesday during the state banquet. And the good news? You can stock up on those too.

White wine: Meursault from Domaine Henri Boillot

The white wine that was poured is a personal favourite of mine. I like heavy and round when it comes to wine, and that is exactly what you get with Domaine Henri Boillot's Meursault. Meursault is one of the top white Burgundy wines. This wine is full-bodied and rich in flavour, yet also fresh. And it is to this fine balance that Meursault owes its good reputation. This is not a cheap slobber: count on around €75 per bottle.

Champagne: Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs 2012

Of course, champagne was also served - and of exceptional quality. It was a Blanc de Blancs, or champagne made from 100% Chardonnay. The house? Taittinger. And yes, that made me very happy. This cuvée is made using only first-press juice. A small proportion (about 5%) is aged in new oak barrels, which creates delicate toasted notes.

The Comtes de Champagne matures for at least ten years in the limestone quarries below Saint-Nicaise before being released to surprise taste buds - like Máxima's on Tuesday. The 2012 edition is perfect to drink now. Cost a bottle? €298. But then you have something.

Red wine: Château Pavie Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 2005

Finally, the red wine: 2005 Château Pavie Saint-Émilion Grand Cru. This Pavie comes from one of Bordeaux's best terroirs, with a combination of limestone and clay soils. Since 1978, it has been considered one of Bordeaux's superstars. And yes, this is reflected in the price: €500 a bottle.

What about Trump?

Donald Trump turned out to be a particularly cheap guest. He does not drink alcohol - Diet Coke and sparkling ice tea are his go-to - and just slept in the spare bed. But hey, that leaves more wine for the rest.
