3 things you can do on your first date

AAHH! A first date (how exciting). Actually, we all want the same thing: that he (or she) plans the whole date and that we only have to respond sweetly to that one message: ‘Be ready at 8:00 PM, I have something fun planned.’”
But yeah. Reality check: it almost never goes like that. Dates (unfortunately) rarely fall into your lap ready-made, and sometimes you have to come up with ideas yourself. Somewhere that’s also kind of chill; at least you prevent yourself from being stuck glowgolfing in your heels later, because there was no dress code in the message #awkward.
1. Terrace hopping in your own city
First of all (and secretly also my favorite): Terrace hopping. Think of it as a kind of pub crawl, but then on the terrace, which is fancier and without getting so drunk that you have to be carried home. How fun: Strolling through the city together and having a drink at a few cute terraces. The best part: you can people-watch, always have conversation starters, and if the conversation does fall silent for a moment, you can always say: “Shall we go to the next one?” And oh yeah, those nerves you have for a first date? After two well-filled glasses of wine, they really disappear (promise).
How long does such a date last? Well, a first date usually lasts between 1.5 and 3 hours, but you actually determine how long it lasts during this date. Did your date look just a bit more fun on their Tinder profile than in real life and is the vibe really not there? Then after the first pub, just say that you have to get up early tomorrow (or use one of these other excuses to easily get out of that one stupid date). Is it super fun and can’t get enough of those beautiful eyes across from you? Then hop from pub to pub until the last round is done. And who pays? No stress. You pay for the drinks at one pub, he pays at the next. Nice and fair and immediately a subtle test of whether he’s a bit of a gentleman with something. And if you absolutely must wear those pumps, make sure they are a pair with an ankle strap, so your leg is broken up again. Also very nice: a nice sneaker. Nikes, Vans, Mipacha’s, actually anything works, and such a sporty shoe creates a nice contrast with the sexy skirt. (not toxic, just smart).
2. A stay at home date
The next date tip is (to be completely honest) not for every first date. Do you know each other a bit longer, are you for example in the same friend group? Then you probably already feel quite comfortable with this person and a date at home doesn’t sound so bad. To be honest: home is actually one of the chillest places to really get to know each other well. A bit weird maybe to invite someone into your parents' house, so here are a few conditions:
- Make sure your roommates are not home drinking or that the future-to-be mother-in-law is not messing around in the kitchen. To be honest: when you’re alone together, it’s a lot chiller.
- Oh, and just tidy up! I can see through the screen that pile of laundry in the corner of your room and I just know that the dishwasher has been on sleeping mode .
- for a long time. Jump straight into bed or flop on the couch is of course not the intention –. that can come later.. Think of a fun activity . My tip? Bake something delicious or cook dinner together. This way you can also immediately see if your date is daddy-proof.
- and if he doesn’t burn everything. Think of something that can extend the home datewithout it getting overly romantic in the bedroom;). After dinner, for example, watch a movie together (here are some nice romantic movies you can watch on a date.
) or take a walk. Oh, and maybe the best part of this date: your outfit. Yup: you just shop for a nice, loungewear set at Zara. , drop your Uggs underneath and top off your outfit with a hefty dose of gold jewelry.
Simple but classy.
3. Aaaaah, romantic: boating. Okay, okay, it sounds cliché, but it’s actually quite fun. Rent a boat and go out together for a bit. For all the Brabanders who are now thinking: ‘I’m scrolling through, that can’t be done around here’ – well, you can rent boats not only in Amsterdam. You can also easily get on the water in Den Bosch or in the Biesbosch., Yup.
, you heard it right.
- Your only task: pick a good day with sun and bring a few things along. No idea what to think of? This is everything you need to bring when you go boating on your first date:
- Water
- Plastic glasses (no glass on the boat, trust me)
- Bottle opener (the classic one you ALWAYS forget)
- Snacks, think: cheese, grapes, chips, chocolate, and wraps.
- Napkins & a small trash bag
- Sunglasses (always charming and practical)
- Hairbrush or scrunchie (wind = drama)
- Sweater or cardigan (it cools down faster on the water than you think)
- Flat shoes/sneakers (believe me: heels and boats are not a match)
- A music box
- Power bank (for Spotify or that cute selfie)
- Card games
