Date night ideas: these are fun things to do in the autumn

A date night is always a good idea. Going out for dinner or sitting for hours on a terrace sipping red wine. That’s really nice, but in the cold autumn, you really don’t want to sit on the terrace for hours. Most people don’t. It’s that time of year again when you look more at the weather app than at your partner. You know, hoping it suddenly becomes 22 degrees so you can drink wine outside without a jacket. But no: rain, wind, fog, and more rain. So instead of blowing away on the terrace, you better put some other date ideas on your list. Scroll quickly before you start to miss the terrace:
1. Evening walk
Okay, okay. Do you still want to go outside? Then you should go for a romantic evening walk, right? If you ask me, there’s nothing better than walking in a city full of aesthetic spots. Those cities with historical buildings that look like you’ve traveled back 200 years in time and cute side streets with bars you wouldn’t want to miss. Can you picture it? Walking hand in hand through all those falling orange leaves. That it’s a bit cold and you snuggle closer together. When it gets so pitch-dark at some point that you hurry to a little eatery on the corner. And then chat for hours while you only planned to have one drink.
2. Go to a dinner show
You often just go out to eat, so it’s nice to do something different once in a while. How about going to a dinner show, for example? Entertainment and food in one? That’s just too good to be true. At the Supperclub, for instance, you can sit still and still experience a lot. For example, the Midnight Masquerade where one moment you’re living in the Roaring Twenties, then you’re in a circus, and after that, you’ve ended up at a masked ball. Now that’s a dinner show, I must say. Wow. Sounds like a great date night.

3. Evening at the sauna
How do you really relax together? At the sauna. Yes, you heard that right. Isn’t it chill: going to the sauna with your love in the evening? Just sitting in that warmth. Let the cold outside be what it is and dive into that hot tub together. At some saunas, you can even book an evening of relaxation where you first go out to eat and then get pampered. That’s better than walking in the rain, right?
4. Do a beer or wine tasting
Not really into alcohol? Then you’ll have to skip this one. Instead, go to a tapas bar or another tasting. Do you enjoy a beer or a nice glass of wine? Then stick around. Go to a real tasting. In a romantic brasserie that looks fancy from the outside. You’ve saved enough and kept putting yourself last, so treat yourself.
5. Bake together
What’s more fun than sitting on the couch with freshly made cinnamon rolls? I’m an introvert who prefers to watch a movie under a blanket on the couch, so for me, this is the best date night: baking together and then ‘indulging’ in the treats together. And baking together is a cozier relationship test than assembling an IKEA cabinet, right? So quickly dive into the kitchen and get to work, lovebirds.

6. Host your own movie night
You can guess it: an activity close to my heart. Cuddling together in the coziest pajamas on the couch. In each other’s arms with a fun series on. Or a movie – make it fun. Not just a simple movie night, but a real movie night. Make a lot of snacks like appetizers, a charcuterie board, toast with dips, tzatziki with baguette, freshly popped popcorn. Really, you can make it as crazy as you want. Grab the bottle of wine and fill the whole table – that way, you never have to leave that warm couch again.
7. Order pizza and watch the stars
Yes, sorry, but there’s nothing more romantic than lying on a blanket and watching the stars together with fresh pizza, right? Find a park, beach, or another beautiful spot and go night-picnicking. Try to find constellations or have a good conversation. Taking a moment to relax and just cuddle can work wonders for your relationship.
8. Game night
A good old game night is always welcome. Pull out all the games: monopoly, uno, don’t get angry or just ‘old-fashioned’ pest. Compete against each other and make it a contest. Choose a prize: a kiss, a wild night, or maybe you just want that last tub of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream for yourself? Either way, a game is always good. Even if you decide after ten minutes that Mario Kart on the Nintendo Switch is way more fun. That’s allowed, right? It’s still a game.
9. Make your own pizza
Besides baking, you can also play chef. Pizza is always good, but it can be quite expensive to order two of those monsters. Isn’t it much more fun to make it yourself? And it doesn’t have to be difficult: buy a pizza base, top it with tomato sauce and all sorts of toppings, and slide it into the oven. Before you know it, they’re ready. Cook together and make all sorts of fun shapes. Want to do more cooking? Then you can make an appetizer, main course, and dessert together. I’m already getting hungry just thinking about it.
