These were my 6 favorite artists from Paaspop on Saturday

Last weekend it was that time again, my favorite festival had started again and on Saturday I went there. For all the Paaspop newbies who are hesitating to go next year: I’ll list my 6 favorite acts from last Saturday, so you don’t have to think twice about whether you want to go to this festival. Have you been a loyal Paaspop visitor for years? I’ll also tell you how things went behind the scenes.
Frenna & The Gang
Screaming, my best friend ran to the Apollo because her favorite artist – and secret crush – was going to perform. Frenna and his band The Gang literally turned the biggest tent at Paaspop upside down. My bestie jumped on my back and we sang along loudly to well-known songs like Pretty Girls and Paparazzi. At the end of the show, dozens of dancers came on stage, all dressed in red. When the dance group and Frenna left the stage, my friend and I ran backstage. And luckily, he hadn’t left yet. Although most artists often leave the venue as quickly as possible, Frenna made his own afterparty because he certainly wasn’t done with Paaspop yet. With a music box, dozens of dancers around him, and a can of Bacardi in his hand, Frenna danced onto the festival grounds via backstage.
Oh, and a fun fact: Monica Geuze was also waiting for the star. Did we just find a secret fangirl here? Read more about our dear Mo here.
The Van Binsbergen Trio
Everyone who has been to The Little Theatre knows it: the Van Binsbergen Trio (by the way, they are actually five of them, just look) gave seriously the best performance of Paaspop. I’m not saying this because my father is the singer of this band, but because it’s really true. Everyone who sees them for the first time and leaves the tent is so hyped – and I’ve heard people say it themselves: “This was really the coolest show of all Paaspop.” During a performance of about half an hour, the best sing-alongs are sung and there is always interaction with the audience. At one song, there were even people in the audience crying: ”Papa, I’m looking more and more like you”.
Typhoon
Typhoon has always been an artist who literally lays bare his soul in his music. And he did that again at this performance. The audience was full of fathers and mothers, but to my surprise, there were also quite a few young people. Probably those parents begged their children to come along. I think the young people definitely didn’t regret going. This was really the coolest audience of all stages on Saturday. The funniest part? There were mosh pits throughout the entire performance. Yes, you heard that right. Mosh pits at Typhoon. During my favorite song Hourglass there was even a mosh pit. You would think that they only arise among today’s youth, but apparently not.
A song without a drop, but with so much energy that the audience couldn’t hold back. And that resulted in, well, parents in a mosh pit - a bit painful, but also very funny.
Joost Klein
I missed Joost myself - you’ll hear why - but my sister talked about it with such joy that he had to be in this list. Joost came on stage with his famous song Ome Robert, there was a ton of smoke and he came on stage screaming. What was he wearing? jorts, a white polo, and his pilot hat. The only downside to his performance was that he Florida 2009 didn’t play. This is often the moment for the audience and Joost himself to get emotional and take a quiet moment, but maybe Paaspop just wasn’t the right moment for that this time. Read more about Joost Klein here and how we thought he would end up in the top 3 at the Songfestival.
RONDÉ
As the first performance of the day, with the large hall two-thirds full and a slight hangover in the air, RONDÉ took the stage. It was boiling hot and in a red leather suit, Rikki rocked her performance. She also didn’t expect it to be this nice at Paaspop and had to catch her breath a few times to get through it, haha. Not only the audience, but she herself also enjoyed this performance immensely.
RONDÉ sang How Do I Feel for the first time – a yet unreleased song. Judging by the applause and the dancing people, this song must be released soon.
Reinier Zonneveld
Why couldn’t I be at Joost Klein? I had to and would go to my favorite techno DJ Reinier. If there was one act that perfectly closed the evening for me, it was this one. Paaspop is really a mix of everything, and you can see that in my list.
Reinier usually performs at places like Rotterdamse Rave and ADE, but he doesn’t skip Paaspop either. Winson played before Reinier and the hall was just a bit fuller then – too bad for those who left too early, more dance space for me. Everything just clicked: the lights, the people, and Reinier played – as always – great.
