Everything new on Videoland in January
Curtains closed and binging

With another 12 new months ahead, a lot of movie nights can be planned. Since choosing what to watch remains a challenge, a little help every now and then is welcome. At least Videoland makes sure our watchlists won't run out; and that starts right away in January. I take you through the best films and series, so you can snuggle up with a blanket on the couch this cold month.
Call Me by Your Name (1 January)
After all the holidays, I think summer is allowed to start, but unfortunately we have to wait a little longer for that. Videoland eases that pain a little with the romantic drama ‘Call Me by Your Name’. 17-year-old Elio (Timothee Chalamet) spends the summer of 1983 with his family in Lombardy, Italy. There, he meets 24-year-old Oliver (Armie Hammer), a doctoral student who comes to help Elio's father with his research. While the two seem total opposites at first, they grow closer and closer. To their own shock, a romance seems inevitable. And that atmosphere of the film; you immediately want a single ticket Italy books.
S.W.A.T season 6 (January 23)
Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson (Shemar Moore) has lived in Los Angeles all his life and works as a police sergeant. A former Marine, he is tasked with leading a Special Weapons and Tactics (S.W.A.T.) special unit. Hondo struggles with his loyalty to both his colleagues and the city's residents, for whom cops are sometimes the very enemy. He will have to find a way to bring these two worlds together and master violence and aggression. The sixth season adds another challenge. While on exchange training in Thailand, Hondo is kidnapped by drug smugglers. He will have to find a way to escape and rely on his team.
Dear John (January 3)
If anyone is the king of romantic stories, it is Nicholas Sparks. Of his 11 book adaptations, ‘Dear John’ surely ranks high on the list. A young soldier John (Channing Tatum) meets college student Savannah (Amanda Seyfried) while on leave. The spark soon strikes and the two become very close in a short time. When John does deploy again, they promise to keep sending each other letters to keep their relationship alive. But as much as they want to, the distance turns out to be a bigger obstacle than they thought. A mega romantic story AND Channing and Amanda in the lead roles. It doesn't get any better than this, does it?
Safe Harbor season 1 (10 January)
Videoland packs a punch at the start of the new year with the new crime thriller ‘Safe Harbor’. ‘Our’ Martijn Lakemeier takes on the role of young hacker Marco, who, together with his friend and fellow hacker Tobias (Alfie Allen), ends up on the radar of the Irish mafia. The boys are tasked with bypassing security at the port of Rotterdam to smuggle drugs in. Soon they find themselves wall-to-wall in the world of drugs. As if the storyline is not exciting enough, the cast also consists of some pretty big names. With actors from ‘Maxima’, ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘Peaky Blinders’ and ‘Mocro Mafia’, among others, our expectations should be pretty high. Now, of course, ‘Safe Harbor’ has yet to live up to them.
It Was Always You (10 January)
Elizabeth (Erin Krakow) is totally in her love bubble. She is engaged to George (Giles Panton) and planning their engagement party is in full swing. But when George's brother David (Tyler Hynes) suddenly reappears, relations are on edge and that bubble suddenly seems to burst. Elizabeth doubts everything she feels for George, but also for David. That bright future is suddenly very far away. That's when our love lives seem a little smoother, too, sometimes nice.
Winter Full of Love season 2 ( 6 January)
I am sure I am not the only one who fell into a bit of a hole after the ‘B&B Full of Love’ reunion. Fortunately, we already knew that another winter edition was coming, but that wait felt endless again. Until now, at last, we can once again enjoy the somewhat uneasy blossoming loves in the b&bs of six new owners. And after Saul and Amy-Rose's success story, the bar is naturally high. It will be enjoyable again.
Do Not Hesitate (27 January)
The title might put you on the wrong track, but this really is a homegrown film. And not just any one; ‘Do Not Hesitate’ was the Dutch entry for the Oscars of 2022, but just failed to get a nomination. But with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 100%, it still bodes very well. In the film, we follow three young soldiers on a peacekeeping mission in the Middle East. When their military vehicle becomes stranded in the middle of the desert and their superior suddenly disappears, the boys are on their own. Everything seems under control, until they meet 14-year-old Khalil. The soldiers feel compelled to follow Khalil into the hostile territory with them in search of water. They just increasingly lose their grip on the situation and reality. Can they actually trust the boy?
