Fashion journalists agree
The tailored blazer is the fashion item of 2025

Do you know this game? You walk happily with a buddy through a museum and present each other at the end of the round with the following dilemma: “You can choose one artwork from everything you just saw. Something you would like to see hanging in your house for whatever reason.”
Well, indeed a totally nonsensical question, because looking is fine, but there is nothing to choose from, let alone take something with you. Still, such a question ensures that you focus just a little more, and you may become extra aware of the effect or emotion that a particular artwork can have on you. The result? A so-called choice that forces you to think.
A similar question came up not long ago during a dinner with a few girlfriends. None of us are averse to regular purchases to realize that necessary wardrobe update. The question was:
“Suppose you can limit yourself to the purchase of just one item for the upcoming season. What do you choose?”
An impossible question, but surprisingly it sparked a spontaneous discussion. We were unanimously agreed on one thing: a new season cries out for an update. After a few years in which oversized and casual dominated, it is high time for a bit more elegance and refinement.
Done with the sneaker
Girlfriend M admitted she was completely done with those eternal sneakers, which had caused her not to buy normal shoes for a long time. Fortunately, last season the good old ballerina made a comeback. Especially the variant with a strap over the instep – the so-called Mary Jane – was très en vogue. Her must-have for the upcoming season? A pair of Mary Janes (by Gianvito Rossi via MyTheresa).
Fashion irritation
Girlfriend L agreed with her but expressed her frustration about the too long, dragging wide pants, which looked more like something from your partner's closet than an item that emphasizes elegance. Whether her new pants would be jeans or something else, she didn't know yet, but it was certain that it would be a model with narrower, straight legs – maybe even a cigarette pant.
I myself was torn between the latest Y-bags from Saint Laurent or a new blazer. Although I find it difficult to limit myself, I came to a conclusion (that was the assignment after all): my absolute must-have item would be a tailored, slightly oversized blazer.
Why that blazer?
I too am a bit done with the look of past seasons. It's time for renewal, that's just how it works in fashion. Too oversized must make way for something that is less casual. Time for a look that emphasizes the shapes of the body more. Hence a lightly tailored model. Of course, you can achieve the same effect by wearing an existing model with a belt, but I have my eye on a tailored piece from Isabel Marant or Stella McCartney, both via MyTheresa.
A blazer is multifunctional and can be combined with everything. The item can be worn both sporty and businesslike or even dressed up. I choose a neutral shade so that it is easy to combine.
Curious about your choice.
