Here Kelly Piquet shops for baby Lily

Kelly Piquet childbirth

All eyes have been even more on Kelly Piquet than on Max Verstappen in recent months. Because when would their baby be born? And would it all work out within the Formula 1 season? Now, Kelly is Brazilian and I know that in Brazil it is very common to plan your delivery. So here too, nature must have received a little guiding push to ensure that baby Lily would crawl out right between the races on the other side of the famous belly. Because family expansion is fun, that Red Bull has to roll. Fortunately, Max Verstappen just got a new little plane which makes commuting a walk in the park for Max.

The announcement: Instagram breaking news

On Sunday morning – just when we thought there would be a moment of peace in Verstappenland – Kelly dropped the news on Instagram. A beautiful black-and-white photo of baby Lily’s little hand in that of her parents, with a short but powerful text. Max naturally did the same (we suspect a coordinated posting moment, because hello media-savvy), and in no time, congratulations poured in. From teammates, from fans, and from half-celeb Netherlands: everyone wanted to say something about the newest Verstappen.

International attention: baby Lily on all front pages

As if Max’s podium finishes weren’t enough for the press, this birth became world news. Formula 1 fan sites naturally wrote lyrical pieces, but fashion and lifestyle magazines (I plead guilty) also jumped on Kelly’s perfect mama glow and flawless delivery outfits. From British tabloids to Brazilian glossies: Lily stole the show worldwide.

Reactions from the Verstappen family

That the Verstappens are close, we already know. Sister Victoria was the first to respond with a sweet message and photo of her three boys, all of whom are thrilled with a new niece. Mom Sophie also made her presence known and wrote on her socials how proud and grateful she is. Max’s father Jos – who is usually just as sparing with words as with smiles – shared a subtle but loving Insta Story. Real Limburg straightforwardness with a soft undertone, shall we say.

The Verstappen child dynasty

Lily immediately has a whole bunch of playmates: the three sons of Victoria Verstappen. The boys, who we regularly see popping up in the racing action, are already dubbed the racing team of the future. You can just imagine what the Christmas photos will look like: four little Verstappen kids in matching outfits. I suspect, huh.

Baby shopping in Monaco: the chicest boutiques

If you in Monaco if you live there, you find yourself in shopping paradise. No practical onesies from Hema, under the pretext of ‘they'll grow out of them so quickly’. No, Kelly will of course become a habituée at Baby Dior or Bonpoint, where the onesies are just as couture as her maternity looks (which, by the way, were often spotted at brands like Zimmermann and Hatch, but she also wore more affordable brands which makes Kelly so likable and approachable). Also Petit Bateau Monaco is a favorite among jet-set moms, so Lily doesn’t have to worry about this either.

When will we see Kelly back on the track?

If we know anything about Kelly, it’s that she will show up again quickly. With her first daughter Penelope, she was visible at events quite soon, and insiders expect that Kelly will be strutting in the pits by the Grand Prix of Monaco at the latest – baby in arm or safely in the care of a nanny. Because let’s be honest: a bit of a Formula 1 woman knows her way around the paddock flawlessly, even with mommy brain.

A family on the move

With Max’s’ new private jet (yes, really, a Bombardier Challenger 3500 – Max doesn’t do half measures), the Verstappen-Piquet family is just as mobile as ever. So from Monaco to Miami, from Spa to São Paulo: little Lily is getting the international life with an infusion.
