May holiday 2025? This is where you need to go

The May holiday is getting closer and that means only one thing: time to share my vacation inspiration with you. Maybe Berlin isn't the first destination that comes to mind when you think of the May holiday, but believe me, I was there last weekend and it's more fun than you think. A romantic week away, a girls' trip, or just a solo journey? Berlin has something for everyone. Want to make such a trip? This is where you need to go and where you can best stay overnight.

May holiday = fashion shopping

All vintage girls pay attention, forget Vinted, because Berlin is really the place to be if you want to score new vintage gems. Southeast Berlin is full of retro clothing shops. Diamond Freddie, Singblackbird Vintage, JOOandSpatzvintage are the cutest mini-stores where you can score cool clothes. The Berlin fashion you can expect? Black and dark shades are totally in, Y2K tops, sturdy boots or strappy heels/sandals are also a must to pack in your suitcase, and a good pair of jeans, a short jacket, long skirts, and a good pair of sunglasses are something you should bring to look like you're from Berlin.

Minimalism during the May holiday

Open your history books again, because when you go to Berlin, everyone will ask you if you've been to these impressive monuments: The Brandenburg Gate for example, if that doesn't ring a bell, it's time to grab your old high school notes. This iconic building is the symbolic border between East and West Berlin, and today it's a must-see for every tourist. And then there's Checkpoint Charlie, perhaps the most famous border crossing in the world. It was the place where you could go from East to West Germany. Try to find an early and quiet moment in the day when you go, because it's a mega tourist spot. Don't forget the East Side Gallery either, the longest remaining section of the Berlin Wall, which is no less than 1.3 km long. This attraction is the ultimate proof that even the darkest memories can be transformed into art. Here you'll find interesting museums to visit.

May holiday; what to do?

Imagine, you're not really into all that walking and you've seen all the tourist spots, you want to come home and say you've done the coolest and most special things. Hear me out, because through Get Your Guide you can plan the most fun activities.

Bet your partner will want this: a tour of the Olympic Stadium. Or for you and your girlfriends: a wine tasting while you can paint on canvas. Or if you're less in the mood for drinking, try ceramic painting and take your artwork home (just make sure to leave enough space in your suitcase). You can book a boat tour and even swing on the highest swing in Europe. For the street art lovers among us, there's even the option to spray graffiti, so you leave a small, responsible footprint in the city. And for all my Insta-lovers: you can join the Instagram tour, where you visit the coolest Instagram-worthy locations and learn how to take a photo from the best angle. What if you wanted to be a goldsmith for a day? Then you can make your own jewelry. And for all the music lovers, there's even a super fun DJ class.

Speaking of music

The most fun accommodation in Berlin can be found here. Trust me, this hotel must and will be on your list. And whether you're going to Berlin, Brussels, London, or Milan, this hotel has 8 -and soon 11- locations. Last weekend I stayed at the Nhow hotel in Berlin. The personality of this hotel? Music and lifestyle, and you can see that reflected in the design. Joao Casimiro, from brand strategy, told us that they have added as many unexpected elements as possible when you go to a hotel: for example, a stage next to the bar, which you see immediately upon entering and where weekly performances are held.

Transport to your destination

So, your list of things to do is already mega, so now just figure out how to get to Berlin. Are you going by train? Then you'll spend about 80 euros for a round trip. You can now take unlimited luggage, and as an overpacker, I find this mega nice. The train takes about 6.5 hours to get from Amsterdam to Berlin. Are you flying? Then you're only in the air for an hour. Round trips cost between 250 and 350 euros. A bit more expensive, but also a bit more luxurious.
