The Swedish thriller series Glaskupan is set to conquer Netflix

While ‘Adolescence’ still hasn’t completely let go of us, the next potential thriller hit is already at the door. And with Swedish origins, it promises to be tough competition. In the mysterious series ‘Glaskupan’ (The Glass Dome), criminologist Lejla gets drawn into a missing persons case that seems to become increasingly personal. Is the past finally catching up with her after all these years?
Netflix goes to the past
Lejla Ness (Léonie Vincent) returns to the village where she grew up as a child, a place she has avoided for a long time. At a young age, she was kidnapped and held in a glass box; to this day, the perpetrator remains unknown. When she has to return due to family circumstances, she finds a new home with former police officer Valter (Johan Hedenberg); although she doesn’t have much time to settle in. The daughter of a friend goes missing, and due to her work as a behavioral expert and criminologist, Lejla gets pulled into the investigation. The case brings her back to the past and forces her to confront her own traumas. The further the investigation goes, the more it becomes clear that the village hides many secrets. It remains to be seen whether Lejla’s case and the new disappearance are connected, or if history is repeating itself.
Netflix has high expectations for Glaskupan
With a substantial list of successful Scandinavian (crime) series, expectations for ‘Glaskupan’ are high. This might also have something to do with the creator. The story was conceived by Camilla Läckberg, a Swedish author who has several successful crime novels to her name. Various books have already been adapted into films, and the series ‘Fjällbacka Murders’, which can be seen on NPO Plus, is based on her characters. Läckberg makes it clear that this latest project will certainly provide plenty of suspense; she hopes to give viewers a fright. “It’s going to be very, very dark. I’m going to the darkest places,” says the author. So it will be a story full of psychological tension, mystery, and personal dramas, where each character seems to have their own secrets to hide. The ideal recipe for an exciting series, right? The trailer seems to reassure us that our high expectations will be met. To truly discover if that will succeed, we will still have to be a little patient.
‘Glaskupan’ will be available on Netflix from April 15.
