Holiday

Puglia is booming and this is where you need to be

"To this restaurant, I went 2 times in 10 days"

By
Puglia

I lie in bed with nostalgia in my stomach. Today is the last day I can soak up Puglia. Ten days instead of a thick three weeks as we usually do. That was because my love made a program during the Olympic Games and because of that, I’m not really complaining, we spent a large part of the summer in Paris. But my Puglia dose was a bit low, so we turned it into a centrifuge holiday where we did as much as possible in a short time. And yes, we also went to new places, so I’ll share those with you.

Borgo San Giacomo-San Michele Salentino

Admittedly, I haven't been to the Borgo, but I did go to their vineyard where they organized an evening with the tastiest fish from Nautilus, a wonderfully beautiful fish shop in the center of Ostuni, nice cheeses, oysters, prosciutto, and the best bread. We ate among the vines on straw bales covered with blankets. What is it about straw bales that you can sit on? It gives you an instant feeling of happiness, even if it pokes your behind? Anyway, this borgo makes divine rosé. And Primitivo, the robust Pugliese red classic. So if your winemaker has these wines, I would say: buy. Close your eyes and you’re comfortably sitting next to me among the vines.

Dentromare-Pescheria e cucina con vista-Carovigno (Specchiolla)

A new little place in our area must of course be visited. We liked it so much that we even went there twice. Once we ate inside due to bad weather and another time we sat on the terrace by the sea.
The menu is traditionally combined with some bolder dishes and in the evening they serve very delicious sushi. If I may give you a wine suggestion, and you like chardonnay just like I do, I would go for the Battigia. At the top of the menu, it costs 26 euros for a bottle and it’s the best wine I’ve had here so far. The service is incredibly nice, we were greeted with kisses the second time.

The beach boutique of Le Palme

Le Palme is a great beach club, a bit like Club 55 but with somewhat more reasonable prices. It all looks lovely with lights, big palms (of course), and those Balinese double sunbeds. Where you really need to go is the little shop. They have original things from local brands. Most more expensive beach shops nowadays only sell St Barths and I find that so disappointing because you can buy that everywhere. Le Palme had really special things that will remind you of this holiday for the rest of the year.

Burro Café-Centro Storico Ostuni

Here in the area is Masserie Moroseta, a masseria built by architect Andrew Trotter. If you love design, you will be very happy here. The guys from Moroseta – it’s a gay couple running the place – have expanded their empire with Burro Café which you can find in the old center of Ostuni. Italians love coffee and are quite traditional at the same time. If you ask for oat milk in your coffee, they will give you the same look as when you ask for pineapple on your pizza . The guys from Moroseta started Burro Café for this target group. It’s hip, it’s cool, and it’s cozy. Besides a very wide range of coffee, they also have the most delicious pastries. Open until 3:00 PM.
