The Four Seasons Netflix

A series is often watched to relax, but it can also provide new inspiration; for example, for your next trip. That is exactly the case with the new comedy-drama ‘The Four Seasons’. The series follows three couples during their annual vacations and despite the beautiful locations, things do not go smoothly. We tell you everything about this latest Netflix hit, and which filming locations should definitely be on your travel list.

The Four Seasons: This is what you can expect from the story

Three couples with a long-standing friendship come together every three months for a joint vacation; one each season. The spring trip seems to be a fun weekend getaway, but the atmosphere quickly changes when Nick (Steve Carell) reveals to part of the group that he wants to divorce leave his wife Anne (Kerri Kenney-Silver). Meanwhile, Anne is busy with a plan to renew their wedding vows. Nick's secret creates tension among them and puts the other couples on edge. Will they keep the information to themselves or do they need to protect Anne? And what about their own relationships, are they as strong as they have thought all this time? Despite all the marital problems and tensions in the friendships, the group still tries to make the most of the trips. But with all these changes, that is not as easy as it used to be.

This is the story behind The Four Seasons

The story of ‘The Four Seasons’ is not entirely new; the series is based on the film of the same name from 1981. This classic has always been a favorite of Tina Fey, the creator and lead actress of the new series. Although Fey has made some adjustments and modernizations to the story, there are still various references to the original to discover; for example in the clothing. Before the whole project started, Fey asked Alan Alda, the actor and director of the film, for permission. He was very enthusiastic about the remake and even decided to work on it as a producer. Not only that; those who pay close attention can spot him in a small cameo in one of the episodes. His wife, writer and photographer Arlene Alda, also lent a hand. She made a book with all the photos from the original, so the makers of the series could recreate everything as accurately as possible. While Alan and Arlene's relationship may not play a role in the story, their 68-year marriage was still incredibly inspiring for the cast.

These filming locations of The Four Seasons should be on your bucket list

A series that revolves around vacations naturally has the best inspiration to add to your travel wishlist. The first two episodes take place around Hudson Valley, in the state of New York. An area full of nature and charming little villages; the creators chose Cold Spring, Fishkill, and Newburgh. This valley turned out to be the ideal setting for Nick and Anne's lakeside cottage. As shown in the series, you can endlessly hike through the woods or rent a boat on the lake. Of course, you hope to find a bit more peace than the characters. The most ‘exotic’ scenes take place in the summer. For these episodes, the cast and crew traveled to Puerto Rico; more specifically, to Palomino Island. In the series, the resorts have different names, but for your list, you can remember ‘Aité Eco Resort’ and ‘El Conquistador Resort’. Both are full of luxury and in the perfect location for swimming or surfing, truly a tropical paradise.

When the leaves fall from the trees again, the group moves back to the state of New York. The couples visit their old university. Although no specific name is mentioned, the filming took place at Vassar College in the city of Poughkeepsie. The scenes outside the campus were filmed in the town of Beacon, known for its good coffee shops and unique art exhibitions. Not necessarily a well-known hotspot, but that's exactly why it's worth discovering; without the extreme crowds of tourists. Ski enthusiasts will find the winter episodes particularly interesting. These were filmed at Mount Peter, a ski resort about an hour's drive from New York City. From December to March, it's hot and happening on the slopes here; and who knows, you might be able to add a fun city trip while you're in the area.

The cast of The Four Seasons: These are the actors in the Netflix series

For this series, the creators gathered a cast with many big names from Hollywood. Tina Fey was among those seen in the American comedy program ‘Saturday Night Live’ (SNL) and she also played the role of Miss Norbury in the now classic ‘Mean Girls’. Her co-star in the series, Will Forte, also previously worked on ‘SNL’. Steve Carell, whose character starts all the drama in ‘The Four Seasons’, is best known for his role in ‘The Office US’; proof that the comedy genre suits him very well. Kerri Kenney-Silver is also not new to the comedy world, her biggest role was that of Trudy Wiegel in the mockumentary series ‘Reno 911!’; perhaps not the most famous title, but it earned her four Emmy nominations. The last couple is formed by Colman Domingo and Marco Calvani. Domingo already has some big titles to his name, such as ‘The Madness’ and ‘Euphoria’. Quite different from this series, but he can do it all. Calvani may be a less familiar face, he previously mainly worked in theater; but a touch of Italy always does a series good.

Just relax and also dream away about your next vacation; sounds pretty good, right? ‘The Four Seasons’ is now available on Netflix.
