The Stolen Girl will be the new thriller hit from Disney+

After ‘Say Nothing’ and ‘Paradise’ we were sure: Disney+ makes really good thrillers. Soon we can add a new title to this list; and it could very well take a spot in the top 10. In ‘The Stolen Girl’ we follow Elisa Blix, a mother whose world completely collapses when her daughter goes missing. But the further the investigation goes, the more you wonder who the bad guy, or woman, actually is.
The Stolen Girl, a mother's greatest nightmare
When her 9-year-old daughter Lucia asks to play with her new school friend Josephine, mother Elisa Blix (Denise Gough) feels that everything is fine. She has a good feeling about Josephine's mother Rebecca (Holliday Grainger) and is charmed by their neat house. She agrees with peace of mind when Lucia wants to stay over. But when Elisa wants to pick up her daughter the next morning, her greatest nightmare becomes reality. Rebecca is nowhere to be found and she has taken Lucia with her. Their ‘home’ turns out to be a rented vacation house. A manhunt starts across Europe to find the girl. Elisa and her husband Felix (Jim Sturgess) come under immense pressure. The longer the investigation takes, the more the police and the public wonder if the couple can be trusted.
Where is the danger?
Journalist Selma Desai (Ambika Mod) also digs into the case. In her search, she discovers that Lucia is not just any random victim; Rebecca had deliberately targeted her. The question is: why? The more Selma delves into the lives of Elisa and Felix, the more the family seems to be crumbling under the pressure. Various family secrets come to light and doubts increase. Is Lucia perhaps safer with Rebecca? What else does Elisa have to hide?
The promising cast and crew of The Stolen Girl
The story of ‘The Stolen Girl’ is based on the book ‘Playdate’ by Alex Dahl. And with adapting a book into a series, producer Nicola Shindler knows what she's doing. She previously made the thrillers ‘Fool Me Once’ and ‘Missing You’, both based on stories by Harlan Coben. In the cast, we can recognize several familiar faces from previous favorites. For instance, Jim Sturgess starred in the romantic classic ‘One Day’. We also saw Ambika Mod earlier in ‘One Day’; only she played the lead role in the series instead of the film. Holliday Grainger can currently be admired on the big screen, in the role of Gemma in ’Mickey 17’. Experienced creators, a cast with quite a few hits on their CV, and an exciting story; it sounds like the perfect recipe for a good series. Right?
Just a little more patience and then we can discover if ‘The Stolen Girl’ can live up to expectations. From April 16, the five-part miniseries will be available on Disney+.
