This is the cutest little town in France (And you probably don't know it)
And it's even more fun than Saint Tropez

Recently, my daughter asked me in which city I would like to live if I didn't have to consider anything. Work, school, and money wouldn't matter at all. I knew right away; Aix-en-Provence in the south of France. Living there probably won't work out, but if I could send a child there for studies (because Aix has a small university), that would be fantastic. At least I would get a bit of my wish.
Why Aix-en-Provence? Aix is located north of Marseille and is about an hour's drive from Saint-Tropez (also a favorite). It is further south, so the weather is nice and you have of course fantastic rosé wines from the area.

You bump into the beautiful buildings and squares. Walking through the city is a delight.
The markets! A French town is only a French town if there is at least one market a week. In Aix, you can enjoy yourself three times a week. Vegetables, fruits, clothing, dishes, soaps, and of course brocante. Even if you don't buy anything, it gives an instant holiday feeling.

The terraces! There are so many squares with terraces where you want to sit all evening. Les Deux Garçons is a bit like the Café de Flore in Paris of Aix. Paul Cézanne, Emile Zola, and Pablo Picasso used to hang out there.
Cours Mirabeau I once had dinner with children (mine, coincidentally) at the Cours Mirabeau, a beautiful avenue lined with plane trees. At the corner, there were some small attractions, a carousel, some bumper cars, and that made the evening perfect. For them and therefore for us too, because we had a bit of peace.

Lovely boutiques In Aix-en-Provence, you have those delightful boutiques that you don't see in every city. Like Sézane, Longchamps, Souleiado, Hermès, and that incredibly nice Zielinski & Rozen (a bit like the new Aesop).
I would eat here At Niro, which combines street food with what the seasons offer. And they also have delicious cocktails.
