Trends of today that we won't care about in 10 years

Sometimes, very rarely, you ask yourself: “Why? Why did I wear that back then?” Yes, the trends we saw as ‘must-haves’ are long gone into the history books. But, believe it or not, there are now so many trends that we will think later: EW. In ten years, we will probably look back at these fashion choices with a bit of embarrassment. Don't worry if you have these things lying in your closet: Same girl, same…

The balloon pants

Let's be honest: if you've been on social media in the past few months, you've probably come across the balloon pants. These oversized, inflated pants are a hit and literally give you room to breathe. But while we think it's a ‘cool, edgy’ choice now, in ten years we will probably look back with a look of “Why did I think this was a good idea?”.

The thing with the balloon pants is that they look nice on influencers and models. The pants are often ugly because they hide your shapes instead of accentuating them, and the wide, inflated effect can make you literally look like a balloon. Me? I still wear it with love, but I think in 10 years I will think: ‘‘Nah, this wasn’t it.‘

Nice trend, later bald: the slickback

We can't get around it: the slickback. That hairstyle slicked hard back, which you used to only see on gymnasts. Honestly? A smart hairstyle for the day before washday and secretly also handy for when you have to bike in the wind. The only downside is that it literally makes you bald. The more often you wear the hairstyle, the greater your chance of receding hairlines. Here everything about the slickback and how to make a slickback safely without damaging your hair.

Okay, just to the point: Nice, a slickback, but it actually looks like you want to slip into the fryer, so greasy your hair looks. Believe me, later we will think: ‘OMG, no!’ and dry shampoo will be back in, so your hair doesn’t look dirty. Then that slickback will be completely forgotten and purely for gymnasts.

Chunky jewelry in 10 years

There is a new trend in jewelry land and it comes in the form of gigantic heart necklaces. So big that you wonder if you can walk through a door with them. It's a statement – that’s for sure and while I’m writing this, I’m wearing one myself. But as time goes by, and you’ve worn it with every outfit you have in your closet, you start to think more and more: ‘hmmm, is this it?”.

The problem with this trend is simple: in ten years you might not want to wear accessories that remind you of a keychain for teenagers. When you think of a piece of jewelry, you probably want something subtler, more elegant, and especially less heavy. So yes, the oversized heart necklace will probably soon be a distant past, and you will wonder why you thought this was ‘chic’. However, I do think that the chunky bangles will stay #foreverthing. This one is nice:

Platform Uggs, in 10 years nothing

Oh, the Uggs, which were once a real craze and are now completely back (you gotta love them), but then with a twist: the platform variant. I have them, but that’s why they are on the list. I kept looking in the mirror and got a bit of goth vibes. Maybe it wasn’t a good idea, those Uggs with platform. What do you think?

Platform Uggs will undoubtedly remain the warm, comfortable choice (especially for fall), but in ten years we will probably step into a slightly fancier version of a winter boot, without feeling like we are on stilts. Platforms make everything you wear just a little less elegant.

Nails with dots: now cute

For a few weeks now I see it everywhere, and yes, my nail stylist can confirm it: the dot trend, especially the dots on your nails. Now cute, especially with those autumn colors, but in ten years… I think it’s a bit too childish.

It's not really timeless, but yes, it doesn't have to be; they're just nails. It's a trend that you're probably going to forget quickly once you've looked at it a few times and realize that it wasn't really the hype it was made out to be. Well, that's fine, right? You can just file it off your nails! Here's a fun nail trend that, if it were up to me, is timeless.
