Unfortunately: you can also feel hungover without drinking alcohol and here’s how

By

When I accidentally drank more than three drinks after a pregnancy and ten full months without any traces of wine, once again accidentally drank more than three drinks, I knew it again.

Damn, that miserable I-can't-do-anything-today feeling. Thinking you need to throw up when you're sitting in the car for four minutes. Being too nauseous to swallow that paracetamol for the headache. Wanting to cry at the Albert Heijn commercial. That idea. On the night itself, you always have thirst for ten and think that the next glass of vino is a very good plan. The glass after that too. But it never is. Anyway, it can always be worse. You can also wake up feeling incredibly hungover without having drunk alcohol. Yes, then you really have bad luck. But that's how it is.

If you get up and feel lousy, nauseous, sluggish, and have a headache, it doesn't necessarily have to come from some drinks. It could be due to the fact that you've had too much sugar. That causes an incorrect blood sugar level and can make you feel down or very tired. It all has to do with what you eat in a day: the more vegetables and fruit you get, the fitter you feel.

I hear you thinking: here we go again with those wise lessons about veggies and fruit... But broccoli is just more boring than a bitterball. Sure, we are not saints in this either because we also love a Maccie from time to time, but honestly? It just gives you a hungover feeling when you eat unhealthy. Fats and sugars: don't do it. Or well, in moderation. Even without alcohol in the mix, you can feel sick from this. Logical, because alcohol also contains a lot of sugar. Your body has to break all that down again and that drains energy. The same goes for sugars from candy, cookies, cakes, ice creams... No matter how delicious it is.

Furthermore, a broken night doesn't help either: it also gives you a nice hangover without alcohol. Just think of a jetlag. It comes pretty close to a worthy hangover: you feel knocked out, just want to lie in bed, and you're dizzy, exhausted, and grumpy. Well. Sleeping is just as important as eating healthy for how you feel. In short: go to bed early, even if it's still 25 degrees outside and that terrace is calling. And just swap that last glass for a water. It works wonders and saves you another car ride with your head out the window.
