Via Carota: Taylor Swift's favorite restaurant in New York

Taylor Swift in New York: high heels, short skirt (and hungry)
Taylor Swift had her heels high and her skirt short when she went out to dinner this week. As soon as Taylor moves towards a restaurant, the paparazzi dive behind hedges and trees. Of course, there was plenty of speculation again. This time not about a supposed feud with Blake Lively, but about that little bump under her dress. Was she hiding an extra bite of spaghetti there? Or was there perhaps a little Kelce-Swift in the making?
Honestly: I was only really interested in one thing — where did Taylor go to eat?
Taylor Swift's favorite restaurant
You can trust Taylor to give you good tips on where to go in New York. This time she was out with her real bestie Selena Gomez. There wasn't much thinking involved: Via Carota on Grove Street was already on Taylor’s assistant's favorites list. And you? You want to go there now too. With screeching tires, preferably.

Via Carota New York: laidback Italian as it should be
Via Carota is a bit laidback and 100% Italian as you find it in Florence. No fuss food here, but dishes that work with local ingredients and excel in their simplicity. And spritzes. And negronis. Of course.
The women behind the success: Rita Sodi and Jody Williams
The restaurant is run by Rita Sodi and Jody Williams, who together run a true empire of Italian food spots in New York:
- I Sodi
- Buvette
- The Commerce Inn
- Bar Pisellino
- Via Carota
- Officina del Bere
- Officina 1397 (wine shop + delicatessen)
A touch of Florence in the West Village
Via Carota is inspired by the Florentine villa where Rita Sodi grew up. You can feel that atmosphere. The cuisine is authentic: think branzino al sale, pollo alla griglia or asparagi verdi. And getting a table? Not too difficult. Completely in Italian tradition — everyone should be able to eat well — there are tables that you cannot reserve. Usually, you wait about half an hour. Grab a negroni and before you know it, you’re sitting with a linen napkin on your lap.
No New York trip? Just cook Taylor’s pasta at home
If you, like me, don’t have a NYC trip planned: you can simply order the Via Carota cookbook online. Your kitchen will soon become a little trattoria.

Other celebs at Via Carota (you’re in good company)
By the way, Taylor is really a regular customer. For example, she ate there after her breakup with Joe Alwyn. But also:
- Gwyneth Paltrow
- Andy Cohen
- Jennifer Lawrence (who dined with Dakota Johnson yesterday — juicy, because yes: Chris Martin connection)
- Emily Ratajkowski
They all twirled a pasta strand around their forks at Via Carota. So. If you’re going to wet New York soon; you know where to be.
