With this handy tip, you never have to iron again

There are three well-dressed women in front of us on the beach in Bloemendaal at Republiek (go there now, because they have the coolest collaboration with Skins), one of whom was very enthusiastic about a (dryer) tip she had heard. Sorry not sorry: I had to eavesdrop on what that tip was. She was talking about “never ironing again” — and since I don't even have an iron at home (yes really — I do have a steamer though), my ears perked up. So what was that golden tip? Recently, she puts her clothes in the dryer for a few minutes, even that blouse that shouldn't go in, and adds one ice cube. As soon as the rattling of the ice cube stops (because: it evaporates), she takes the clothes out. Sometimes she lets it run a few minutes longer — depending on the garment. And ta-da: as if you have ironed your blouse.
I had to try this of course
At home, I immediately threw that white shirt in the wash. Luckily I still had ice cubes lying around and off it went into the dryer. The combination of heat and cold from the ice cube creates a sort of steam-like effect, which results in a smoother finish. I should have known this years ago — so simple and so effective. Thanks lady in the front, if you are reading this. My sheets, tablecloths, blouses, and even my boys' rompers have never looked so ironed as they do now. And those ice cubes? They are now being replenished. My tip: don't use small ice cubes. A medium size works just a bit better.
