Of all alcoholic snacks, these are the best for you

Of all alcoholic snacks, these are the best for you

I can already hear you sighing: “it’s of course the skinny bitch.” You’re absolutely right, the drink doesn’t get its name for nothing. The mix of vodka, soda water, and a slice of lemon contains only about 85 calories per glass. In cocktail terms, practically a salad without additions, but there are drinks that dive even lower.

Alcohol without calories sounds like a dream (and a gap in the market), but unfortunately, it’s not feasible. Ethanol is the culprit, and it delivers about seven calories per gram anyway. Shots of 40% alcohol do exist, but they are downright disgusting. These are drinks that won’t immediately make your mouth corners turn down.

1. Champagne

How could it be otherwise than that the crème de la crème of alcohol wins this contest? With about 57 calories, it’s the lightest player. Every bubble counts by the way; a cava, cremant, or prosecco does just as well.

2. Hard seltzer

With about 60 to 65 calories per can, we find hard seltzer in second place. Sparkling water with just a bit more kick; Stelz or White Claw for example. A huge advantage of these kinds of drinks is that it’s mostly water, which helps you the next morning against the hangover.

3. Skinny bitch

There you have it; the skinny bitch. This is also a reliable choice if you don’t want to regret it the next day thanks to the water. This ‘tall drink of water’ gets bonus points for the vitamins in the lemon, even though it’s not much.

What is Guinness doing here?

Also worth mentioning: Guinness. The heavy drink that is widely associated with beer bellies turns out not to be so guilty after all. In terms of calories, it’s not bad, and it contains B vitamins and antioxidants. It’s still not ginger shot, but it’s nice to know if you end up in a brown café.

The brutal reality

Alcohol is never “good” for you. Just like your ex, and yet you fall for it every time when it gets cozy. It increases the risk of all sorts of things you’d rather not think about on a Friday night: addiction, liver stress, worse sleep, and even serious diseases. Somehow, the hangover is still the worst.

We are only human. And sometimes you just choose something with bubbles or a slice of lemon to feel like you have it under control.
