Everything we know about the wedding of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce

A couple in love stand close together in a lush garden full of flowers. The woman tenderly holds the man's face as they lean their foreheads against each other. In the background is a large vase of colourful flowers among the greenery.

This weekend it will finally take place, America's royal wedding: the wedding of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. The date is no coincidence, Taylor it is known for its Fourth of July parties. You might expect a big party at a mansion or island, but with the lack of privacy, that unfortunately wasn't possible. The couple chose a very unexpected location, namely Madison Square Garden. Yes, the famous concert hall where the New York Knicks also play their basketball games. At first, I thought the location was intentionally leaked to distract people from the real details, but as I write this, the rehearsal dinner is in full swing and the streets around it are completely blocked off.

Upon further reflection, it makes more and more sense that they chose such a location, as there are reportedly about a thousand people on the guest list, it is easier to secure, and they can transform the space however they want. Cars can also drive in, so people are not disturbed by a sea of paparazzi upon arrival. All week, staff at Madison Square Garden had to leave their phones at home, and dozens of trucks delivering decor have already been spotted. Trucks with lighting equipment, flower deliveries, catering trucks, carpets, artificial grass, trees, handrails, and drapery were all brought inside. There were already labels visible on boxes reading ‘Garden Party’ and ‘Mirror Ball’, the same name as a well-known song from her album Folklore. If there is one team that is an expert in quickly setting up a large-scale production, it is Taylor Swift's. During the Eras Tour, they built complete stadiums every week, so organizing this wedding is probably no challenge at all.

The security measures are significant: there are more than 130 NYPD officers on the streets, the surrounding streets are inaccessible to traffic and pedestrians, and there are fences and tents everywhere. The rehearsal dinner in the Infosys Theater, located beneath the Main Arena of MSG, was kept small with about a hundred guests. Selena Gomez, Gigi Hadid, and Bradley Cooper, Swift's producer Jack Antonoff, Lena Dunham, Adam Sandler, various prominent NFL figures, and the families of the bride and groom were all brought to the location in a long line of black SUVs.

Today, on the day of the wedding itself, there will be a cocktail reception at 4:00 PM, followed by the ceremony and reception, which is expected to last eight hours. Among the thousand guests, in addition to Thursday's guests, Ed Sheeran, Sabrina Carpenter, Zoë Kravitz, the Haim sisters, and Kelce's Kansas City Chiefs teammates are also expected to be present. Although sources at Buckingham Palace reported that Prince William, who is friends with the couple, would not be attending, he did give the couple a sort of wedding gift by appearing on Travis's podcast, New Heights, in an episode that was released this afternoon.

Who designed the wedding dress is still unknown, but according to various media, it will be a design by Jonathan Anderson for Dior Haute Couture, or Oscar de la Renta, one of Taylor's favorite designers.

There will undoubtedly also be performances, and Taylor joked last year in an interview that it would be “difficult to prevent” Ed Sheeran from performing at her wedding if there was a stage.

Although the couple has requested that guests do not bring gifts, they have made a series of bizarre donations themselves that cost much more than the wedding itself. They have distributed more than 26 million dollars to over twenty charities, including food banks, children's hospitals, and music and education programs.

Whether we will see any footage from the wedding is still uncertain, but it certainly won't come from the guests, who had to leave their phones outside and all had to sign strict non-disclosure agreements. Still, it wouldn't be surprising if Taylor Swift shares something herself at a later time. The singer has made a near art form out of Easter eggs and carefully planned reveals.
