My Wife, My Killer: the bizarre story of the new Videoland docu

By

True crime documentaries often already guide you in a certain direction with their title. With ‘My Wife, My Killer & the Secret Footage’, you can guess a little about what happened. Well, a little bit then. Even with this ‘spoiler’ in the title, this new true crime doc on Videoland leaves you shocked. That Jennifer Faith had something to do with her husband's death was soon clear; but how big and complex her role was, no one saw coming.

The murder that triggered the investigation

It's still early in the morning when Jamie Faith leaves his house with his wife Jennifer to walk the dog. Jamie barely steps outside when he is shot at out of nowhere. He is hit seven times. The perpetrator then turns to his wife; she is beaten and her hands are taped. Neighbors hear the shots and Jennifer's screams of fear and call for help, but it comes too late. The perpetrator has fled and Jamie does not survive the attack. Jennifer is left hopeless, and while family and neighbors rally for her and her daughter efforts, she begs the officers and the media for one thing: answers. Who did this?

The first suspect comes into view

At the beginning of the investigation, the police face a major puzzle. The attack does not seem to be a random robbery; with so many shots, it must have been targeted. But who would do this to Jamie? He was a beloved man, had no enemies, and according to Jennifer, their marriage was also good. Despite the many security cameras in the area, the police have very few clues. The perpetrator is not clearly visible on camera, and only his car can be seen: a black pickup. Good luck trying to find that in a big city like Dallas, Texas. Yet it is precisely that vehicle that leads to a breakthrough. A sticker on the window brings the officers to a suspect: Darrin Lopez. A name that immediately sharpens the investigation. Because why is he in Jennifer's contact list?

The plot slowly comes to light

When the police confront Jennifer with her connection to Lopez, she quickly admits to knowing him. An old high school love with whom she has recently reconnected, supposedly purely platonic. However, officers find very different clues on her phone. Jennifer talks about an affair, and it doesn't stop at a few messages. The two send each other hundreds of messages a day, even during the period around the murder. A motive seems to be quickly found: Lopez wants Jennifer for himself and sees Jamie as an obstacle. An act of jealousy, of which Jennifer claims to know nothing. Case closed and finally clarity? For a moment, the officers think so. Until Lopez's lawyers come up with new evidence: emails between him and Jennifer. And those point to a very different story.

Where are Jennifer Faith and Darrin Lopez now?

As the investigation progresses, it becomes clearer that Jennifer's role is larger than she had long let on. How exactly that is, we will leave to the documentary, as it is those details that make this story so shocking. What is now certain is that Jennifer knew much more than she initially told. In the end, both she and Darrin Lopez are convicted and end up in prison. Jennifer receives a life sentence and Lopez is sentenced to 62 years in prison.

Sometimes the truth truth turns out to be even more incredible than the title suggests. ‘My Wife, My Killer & the Secret Footage’ is now available on Videoland.
