New on Netflix: September

After a sultry summer where the heat was so intense that you wanted to stick your partner behind the wallpaper and would kill for an air conditioner, the cold has finally arrived. September has begun, and autumn is at the door. In my eyes, that cooler temperature means one thing: it's time to binge again. So grab that blanket, make a cup of tea, and dive onto the couch with us: the viewing season has begun. This month, there are plenty of gems coming to Netflix to spend your evenings with.

1. Mal de amores (from September 2)

We travel back in time to the Mexican Revolution. Around 1910, Emilia Sauri does something that no one agrees with: she doesn't want to become a traditional housewife. No, certainly not. Emilia wants to become a doctor. Driven by this dream, she defies all the prejudices and rules that society has set for her. On her path to success, she finds herself, alongside the search for who she is, in a quest for true love. Will that take away her much-desired independence? And will she succeed in becoming a doctor? And how does Emilia navigate her life in such a turbulent period? You'll see it all.

2. The Gentlemen season 2 (from September 3)

Theo James playing a drug lord in London? We want to see that. After a first season full of attractive people with great accents, a lot of blood, violent criminals seeking revenge, and a good plot twist, it's time for a sequel. Now that Johnston has been arrested and all their enemies have basically wiped each other out, the game is open for Eddie and Susie. Especially now that Bobby wants to invest in their drug empire. Season two follows our favorite main characters as they try to grow their business even bigger. But that Bobby, who was once their rock in the storm? He's suddenly going to make crazy moves.

3. Teenage Wasteland (from September 4)

A documentary belongs in this list. If there's one thing we love at Amayzine, it's a good docu. This time, we follow an unconventional teacher and a group of teenagers in New York at the beginning of the nineties. The group of students wanted to make a documentary for a school project about a major conspiracy that was playing out in their community. Now, thirty years later, the now-adult people look back at the film and are confronted with all the consequences that came their way after the publication.

4. Earl Meets World (from September 4)

With no less than 14.5 million followers, Alix Earl is one of the most successful TikTok stars in the world. This girl next door is a real businesswoman who is much more than just a TikToker making some ‘get ready with me’ videos. As soon as she uses a product, it's sold out. She has a well-listened podcast, she participated (and almost won!) in Dancing With the Stars and she is a walking billboard for the biggest brands. This gave Netflix an idea: why not just follow Alix and her family? Just like the Kardashians, we have a new family to be jealous of starting September 4. And there's bound to be a big, delicious dose of drama in there, like Alix's much-discussed break-up with NFL player Braxton Berrios.

5. Why Did I Get Married Again? (from September 9)

Do you know that movie Why Did I Get Married from 2007? In this comedic blockbuster featuring Tyler Perry and Janet Jackson, we got to know four couples who turned their lives upside down during their annual vacation in the Caribbean. All the secrets caused a lot of commotion that still isn't completely resolved. Now, years later, the stars in Why Did I Get Married Again? come together again for the wedding of Marcus and Angela's daughter. The friends realize that, although a lot has changed, they are still secretly the same. In fact: their children have all followed their bad examples, which raises the same question as before: why did they actually get married?

6. De Eetclub (from September 10)

Although we already have a film adaptation, Saskia Noort's Eetclub is coming back to the big screen. Or rather. The streaming service, then. Because a new series is coming to Netflix. In the series, we follow Karen (Loes Haverkort), who moves to Bergen with her husband Michel (Teun Luijkx) and children. To fully integrate, she joins the Eetclub. This is a large group of friends who enjoy life by planning extravagant dinners and vacations together. This seems innocent, but those adventures are wilder than Karen thought. Their perfect lives change forever when one of the group's villas goes up in flames and a friend of the group, Evert, dies. His wife and children manage to escape the house just in time. Because of the accident, Karen discovers that behind the close friendship lies a web of lies that keeps everyone together. At all costs, she wants to uncover the truth, but that comes at a high price.

7. Best of the Best (from September 18)

Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, whom we know as Devi from Never Have I Ever, is back and better than ever. Now not as a teenager with a lot of trauma, but as a university student who joins a competitive Bollywood fusion dance team at her university, UCLA. Together with her best friend Anjali (Priyanka Kedia), she finds herself in the hectic group and dances her way to the American championship. That may not sound like an exciting movie, but it doesn't always have to be. This is a feel-good movie like Step Up, Honey and The Streets, where it's not just about dancing, but about all the problems that come with growing up as a young woman. And just for those Bollywood vibes with the fantastic, extravagant outfits and even bigger dance numbers, you want to see this movie.
