These two affordable skincare products do what expensive creams promise
There is a forest, what am I saying: a jungle, of products that promise skin improvement. And I can imagine that sometimes you just don't know what to choose anymore. All those ingredients: what do they do and what does your skin need? To guide us through the multitude of choices, sisters Esther Meijer-Litjens and Stephanie Litjens started their own skincare line: Prescription Skincare. Because they too, the women behind the Soap Treatment Store, that wonderful chain of salons where you can have just about anything done to become the best version of yourself, found that skincare had become unnecessarily complicated.
That’s why they developed Prescription Skincare, approaching the skin from scientific research and practical experience. What they also find important: offering certain active ingredients as soloists or combining them with just a few other ingredients, so they can do their job even better. Today I am selecting two of their heroes that I also love to use. Because no matter how clear they want to make it, a little bit of text and explanation is always nice.
Niacinamide serum: the multitasker that gives your skin a break
Niacinamide is a vitamin B3 and a kind of all-purpose cloth for your skin. A few drops on your cleansed skin in the morning and evening provide a strengthened skin barrier, hydrated skin, and protection against sun damage. Another effect: niacinamide has anti-inflammatory properties (ideal for people like me who suffer from rosacea or blemishes) and refines the texture of your skin and your pores. I believe that your pores enlarge at a certain age and we would rather not have that.
I will go through the ingredients step by step with you.
With 7% niacinamide, sebum production is regulated, the skin is strengthened, and you get a nice even skin appearance. Furthermore, this product contains panthenol, which penetrates deeply into the skin and supports the natural healing process and calms stressed skin. Bring it on, panthenol, I need you. Ziziphus jujuba is derived from the seeds of the jujube fruit, which is praised for its antioxidant properties that bring the skin into balance.
Cyanocobalamin provides vitamin B12, which supports the skin's healing process, reduces redness (that’s what I want!) and ensures a more even and calmer skin appearance.

Hyaluronic acid serum with DMAE: for a full and hydrated skin
The other skin hero from Prescription Skincare, which is sold like hotcakes, is hyaluronic acid + DMAE. This serum is so hydrating that it makes your skin feel fuller, more elastic, and more comfortable immediately. You know how sometimes after a night of tossing and turning you have dry skin that feels tight? Well, that’s the moment when this product helps you through the day. You actually feel a difference as soon as you apply it. And how that exactly works, I will tell you now.
This serum consists of 5% hyaluronic acid, which attracts moisture and helps to retain it in the skin. There is 1% of DMAE in this product, which is enough to support the firmness and elasticity of your skin. This hydrating base provides a soft and comfortable feeling. You have those products that seem to work healing as soon as you apply them? That you look like you’ve slept ten hours instead of a restless six within a minute? Well, this is such a product.
How do you use it? Just like the niacinamide: a few drops on clean skin in the morning and evening, finishing off with a nourishing cream.
