Now Sarah Pidgeon and Joe Alwyn are a couple, but who were they with before?
In case you magically missed it: Love Story-actress Sarah Pidgeon (29) and Hamnet's Joe Alwyn (35) are a thing. The two were spotted kissing and cuddling in New York last week. It was noticeable that they weren't being secretive about it, as they had always kept their relationships carefully out of the spotlight before. Joe Alwyn had a six-and-a-half-year relationship with the biggest pop star in the world and was hardly seen kissing on camera during that time. And Sarah Pidgeon seems to have her private life completely under lock and key. There is no interview in which she discusses her love life (she seems to resemble Carolyn Bessette more than just in looks). But no matter how private they tried to keep it: the internet always finds a way. This is what is known (and not known) about the love story of Sarah Pidgeon and Joe Alwyn.
Taylor Alison Swift
The pop star Alwyn was with all those years is, of course, singer-songwriter Taylor Swift (36). They reportedly met at the Met Gala in 2016 and broke up in April 2023. From the start, it was clear that we wouldn't learn much about what happens when the curtains close. It was literally the first thing Joe ever publicly said about Swift. “I know people want to know more about that side of things,” he said. “I think we've managed to keep our privacy, and that has now reached people... but I'd rather talk about my work.” Over the years, there were sometimes snapshots of them taken on vacation, at weddings, or just on the street, but Alwyn stuck to what he said and revealed almost nothing about Swift. Except that he didn't want to talk about her.
Still, now and then, some things did slip through. The singer later confirmed that Alwyn – under the pseudonym William Bowery – co-wrote two songs on her album Folklore and was also involved in three songs on Evermore. And Alwyn himself briefly spoke out in 2018 about Swift's decision to speak politically after a career-long silence. “I think it's great, and I think it's important,” he said before walking away.
But now he is busy with Sarah Pidgeon. And Taylor Swift? She has also well moved on, and is moreover a lot louder about her love with American football player Travis Kelce (36). The couple started dating in 2023 and ‘your English teacher and your gym teacher’ (as their Instagram announcement read) are engaged since August 2025.

Emma Laird
Shortly after Swift and Alwyn broke up, there was speculation that he might have cheated with his co-star in “The Brutalist”, Emma Laird (27). She then posted an Instagram post with the caption “Moments in March”, followed by a heart and a camera emoji. Among the photos was also one showing Alwyn on an electric Lime scooter. That was enough for some Swifties to draw conclusions. Especially since Swift has a song called ‘Londen Boy’, which starts with a very fitting sample.
Of course, no one actually involved in the story has ever spoken out about its truth. Still, Laird's comment sections were quickly filled with snake emojis and other less kind messages.

Caleb Harper
Joe Alwyn is not very outspoken, but Sarah Pidgeon can be even less so. She has never publicly introduced anyone as a partner, and there seems to be no interview in which she speaks about her dating life. Yet there have been rumors for years that she and Caleb Harper (31), the frontman of the Australian band Spacey Jane, were a thing. The two first met in 2022 when Sarah played the lead role in the music video for Spacey Jane's song It's Been a Long Day. Their chemistry was so off the charts that fans couldn't help but speculate about a real romance. They were indeed right during 2025 and early 2026 when they were regularly spotted in the background of each other's social media stories and at various events. Even though this may now be over with Alwyn in the picture, the alleged exes still follow each other on Instagram.

Whether the PDA-filled date was a one-time occurrence or the beginning of a new pattern for Sarah Pidgeon and Joe Alwyn remains to be seen. Or perhaps not seen after all the attention that followed.
