Vinted fans pay attention: you need to know this trick
(you'll never do it differently again)
You know how it is: you see an outfit or bag on Instagram, Pinterest or TikTok and immediately think: where is that from? Then you spend twenty minutes searching for the right words on Vinted, but mostly get things that don't quite look like it. Fortunately, there's a much easier trick for that.
Just upload a photo on Vinted
Vinted has a feature that allows you to search by image. And honestly: a whole new world opened up for me when I discovered this. Instead of typing in a search term, you use a photo. How convenient? Predecessors Zara and H&M already had it, but now Vinted has finally joined the club too.
Vinted then searches the catalog for items that visually resemble your image. According to them, the platform uses visual similarity among other things to show relevant results. So do you have a screenshot of that one nice blazer? Or a photo of a bag you saw somewhere? Then you can use that image to search for similar items on Vinted. That's how I found my latest work bag.
Here's how it works
The principle is actually very simple: you go to the search function of Vinted and choose to search with an image. Then you upload the photo you saved.
After that, Vinted gets to work and shows you products that closely resemble the item in your photo. And that's especially handy if you have no idea how to describe the item. Because just try to think of what search term to use for a specific vintage jacket, a certain type of ballerinas, or a bag whose brand you don't know. With one photo, you no longer have to think about that.
Especially handy for that one TikTok find
This trick is especially ideal if you see something on TikTok, Instagram, or Pinterest that you think: I want that. Take a screenshot, upload it on Vinted, and see what comes up.
The result is not always guaranteed to be exactly the same item. The function searches for visually similar products, so it may also show you different variants, other brands, or items with a similar shape and appearance. But that can be handy if you don't necessarily need the original item and are mainly looking for a cheaper alternative.
And sometimes you suddenly find a gem
The fun of searching by image is that you not only find the item you were originally looking for. You can also come across completely different options that you would never have entered in the search bar yourself.
A certain jacket can, for example, be linked by Vinted to similar jackets that match in model and appearance. This way, you suddenly come across a seller who has exactly what you're looking for, but for a lot less money. And that's exactly why Vinted can be so much fun, without the frustration of not being able to find your item.
Small tip: use a clear photo
The clearer the item is visible in your photo, the easier it is to determine what you're looking for. So preferably choose an image where the clothing item or accessory is clearly visible.
And if you're selling something on Vinted yourself, the same applies: good photos are important. Vinted advises, among other things, to clearly photograph the entire item, show different angles, and capture important details well. This way, people can also find your ads better through this function.
