Are you still trying to read your erotic book from your bag on the train? Then we first have to find you very pitiful and then say: that shame is unnecessary. There is nothing wrong with reading some spicy books; everyone can use a little romance in their life. But okay. Maybe you just want to read a book in public without anyone immediately thinking: “Aha! That person is reading porn in broad daylight.” Yes? No panic: we know some books. At first glance, it doesn't look like clothes are being taken off on every page, but it does happen secretly.

1. God of Fury by Rina Kent

At first glance, this looks like a book about an Egyptian god when you look at those golden letters and read the title. You know, one of those books where you read about characters trekking through the desert and having to find some weapon to defeat the evil pharaoh. But this is really not that. Now, it's not that fantasy or historical fiction books can't be sexy, but God of Fury it certainly does not revolve around a mythical figure. In this story, we follow Brandon and Nikolai. Brandon is a shy boy who starts to doubt whether he is attracted to men. That doubt doesn't come from nowhere. It comes from another boy: the dangerous Nikolai Sokolov. The mafia heir is not known for his gentle nature, but there is something about him that attracts Brandon. Conversely, Nikolai becomes obsessed with Brandon. He must and will have him. Do you want to quietly read a book full of sex without anyone knowing? Then this is a real recommendation.

2. Till Summer Do Us Part by Meghan Quinn

That this is a novel is no secret. But that it is so full of passionate adventures, no one would think. That pink cover seems to be about a cute story about holiday romances, but Till Summer Do Us Part is a completely different picture. Scottie Price is at her new job among all kinds of macho men and honestly? She is not looking forward to that at all. When she finds out that everyone is married, Scottie invents that she has a man to fit in. And to impress her boss, of course. However, a colleague immediately sees that she doesn't have a wedding ring. Panicking, she comes up with a story about her unhappy marriage, which explains that. Luckily for her, Chad knows a solution to all her problems: a couples therapy session with the very best relationship therapist. She doesn't dare to say no, but yes. Scottie has no man. So what does she do? Arrange her best friend's brother to go with her. Wilder Wells is everything Scottie hates, but okay: it's temporary. That fake man will leave after the therapy. Of course. This may sound innocent, but believe me: it really isn't. Prepare for sex scenes and tension that will make you blush behind your book. And no one knows why.

3. A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

A list of spicy books is not complete without the ‘elf smut’ that has captivated all of TikTok: A Court of Thorns and Roses is the first book in a fantasy series that revolves around very different things than saving the world from a villain. There is magic, but not like you know from The Lord of the Rings. In this series, we follow 19-year-old Feyre. After a long, gloomy winter, it’s a struggle to see who gets the first piece of meat. During one of her hunts, she sees a wolf hunting a deer. This is her moment to fight for the deer. Her family can eat for weeks from it. Killing the magical wolf is possible, but it comes at a price. After her kill, she is dragged to the dreaded fairy realm of Prythian by a beastly creature. Her kidnapper turns out to be no filthy beast, but one of the deadliest, and of course, handsomest, fairies ever: Tamlin. And what develops between those two is electric.

4. Lilac by B.B. Reid

Then a story where real gods are involved, then. Or well, a sort of. In Lilac we follow Braxton Fawn. And she sees musicians as gods. Her dream comes true when the super popular rock band Bound loses their lead guitarist. They need a substitute and choose her without knowing she is a woman. Once she arrives, they want nothing more than to bully her out of the band. And Braxton? Her dream, however, comes with a catch: in reality, she hates her new bandmates Houston, Loren, and Jericho. They really weren't looking forward to having a woman among them. But yes, as in most stories, that hate turns into passion. This leaves Braxton with a new goal: not to be bullied out, but to survive the tour without falling for one of the boys.

5. First-time Caller by B.K. Borison

Just like Till Summer Do Us Part looks like a sweet novel. What do you expect from a book where people sit next to each other in full outfits and not naked in each other's arms? You might not expect much, but those assumptions you should sharpen, because First-time Caller is a truly steamy book. Aiden Valentine hasn't been in love for a long time. As a host of a romance hotline, it would be career suicide to admit this. As in every love story, this Grinch warms up through an unexpected character. When a little girl asks for love advice for her mother, she tries to set Aiden up with her mother Lucie. At first, she protests, but secretly she enjoys participating in the program. Will she find her soulmate there? Or is it that nice producer who starts to steal her heart piece by piece? You can guess what will happen there.

6. Little Stranger by Leigh Rivers

If you judge a book by its cover, then Little Stranger looks like a Halloween drama. And it is, actually. But then one with a whole lot of sex. Olivia and Malachi Vize were once very close. From the moment Olivia was adopted into the family, Malachi became obsessed with her. Everything changed when Olivia betrayed him. What exactly he went to jail for, we won't spoil, but we do know he was locked up for years. And now? He wants revenge. Now that Halloween is approaching, Malachi no longer has to hide in the shadows. The time has come to make her his once and for all. Her body, soul, her fear, and pain. Does that sound toxic and wrong? Then you're right, but most things that are bad for you feel so good. I would think twice about reading this book on the train, because even if no one sees what you are reading, I can guarantee you will be sitting in that blue chair with red cheeks.

Do you want to stop feeling ashamed when someone asks what you are reading and you pull out a little book with a half-naked man? Then these books are real recommendations. No one knows that you are basically reading porn at three o'clock in the afternoon. And who knows... Maybe you'll get some inspiration for your real life. Have fun.
