So this past week I have retreated to the world of plants. Really nothing is more fun and they liven up the home making it naturally cozier. But you’ve already read about all those tips so no need to go there again.
So when “Things we Love” showed up on the planning today and I was assigned to make another fab illustration my mind was still set in plant mode. For this reason we have cacti on today’s menu. Because a cactus is a plant that survives summery tropical temperatures contrary to other leafy greens that go limp in too much sunlight or heat. That prickly plant happens to be hip and is the newest must-have item, following right behind the Vitra-chair, the glass bell and the cabinet of curiosities.
You understand that I have one, a cactus. And the cactus is the first plant, aside from the banana plant my friends gave me, to do well in my home. And like with all good things here at the office, I followed through on the trend at home and gave it a name: Carl the Cactus. A drop of water once a week and he’s excruciatingly happy. There’s even a show of flower buds so that must be a good sign. It might seem like a prickly stranger you have to keep at a safe distance but nothing is further from the truth, the cactus is loved.
Jullie weten dat ik mezelf de afgelopen twee weken heb ondergedompeld in de wereld van planten. Echt, niks leuker dan dat en het maakt je huis een stuk gezelliger. Maar ook die tips hebben jullie natuurlijk állang gelezen en daarover hoef ik dus ook niet meer uit te wijden.
Dus toen er vandaag weer een ‘Things we Love’ op de planning stond en ik daar weer een fabuleuze illu van moest maken, bleef ik in die plantenwereld hangen. En dus staat er vandaag een cactus op het menu. Want een cactus is een plant die deze overdreven tropische temperaturen wél overleeft, in tegenstelling tot elk andere plant die meteen een beetje flets wordt bij te veel zonlicht en warmte. Dat prikkelbare plantje is nu ook hartstikke hip en is na de Vitra-stoel, de stolp en de letterbak het nieuwe moet-hebben-item.
Die cactus, je begrijpt, die heb ik ook. En de cactus is dus de eerste plant die het, naast de bananenplant van mijn vriend, al langer dan twee maanden goed doet in huis. En zoals bij alle dingen hier op kantoor heb ik de trend ook thuis doorgevoerd en heeft ‘ie een naam gekregen voor een nog betere band. Karel de cactus. Eens in de week een drupje water en hij is op z’n gelukkigst. Er beginnen bloemetjes te komen, dus ik denk dat dat een goed teken is. Het lijkt dus een prikkelbaar ding dat je ver op afstand moet houden, maar niets is minder waar hoor, de cactus is geliefd.
