7 REasons to do yoga

By the time you read this I will have almost completed my third day on Ibiza. It’s my first time (shame on me) and no, I’m not going to be spending my time hopping from one party to the next, nope, it’s all about tranquility and serenity. A yoga retreat to be exact, during which I’ll be spending three hours a day saluting the sun, eating extremely healthy and a week in which I’ll have plenty of “me-time.” It won’t come as a surprise that this sounds like music to my ears.

I was scrolling through my Facebook feed when I came across an add from Happy Soul Travel for this retreat with a killer last minute discount. I clicked on it and before I knew it, I booked my ticket. It was a godsend. Sometimes you really can use a bit of yoga, and here is why.

  • When you have absolutely no free time on your hands and your head is completely jam-packed. Doesn’t matter with what, but nothing some yoga can’t fix. The first lesson might take some adjusting and it will be hard to completely relax and to zone out everything that’s happening around you. I remember the first time I tried it and an hour later I was still thinking of all the administration work I had to do or what I wanted to eat that evening “shit, I have so much to do tomorrow.” Keep trying it though, don’t give up after a few lessons, the more you do it, the better it gets. And before you know it, you’ll know how to relax completely.
  • It’ll be easier for you to fall asleep because you’ll be able to apply your yoga breathing technique in bed and it will calm you down.

“In the end you’ll realize that it’ll give you a slim figure too.”

  • To become happier and more comfortable in your own skin. Yoga might sound somewhat wishy washy and during a lesson it’s important to become “one with yourself” and such, but a bit of open mindedness won’t hurt.
  • You don’t do yoga to loose weight, you have to do it because it intrigues you and you want it to become a part of your lifestyle. In the end you’ll realize that it’ll give you a slim figure too.
  • To become more agile. Can’t hurt, right?
  • When you practice a lot of yoga, you’ll have a better time concentrating. The breathing technique you use during a class can be implemented during other activities you do. Working, when you’re on your bike… An easy way to relax.
  • It’s going to build up your core strength.
