7 WAYS TO SURVIVE AUTUMN

Yes people, it’s official. Summer is over. I really hope for a revival in the form of a long Indian summer, but for now, it’s pouring from the sky, traffic jams are back, and (in my case) lunch boxes had to be filled again. Plenty of ingredients to lie under a duvet and come out again in March 2015. Not really an option, so here’s how to face autumn in 7 steps.

Stay indoors. Okay, obvious, but it’s the perfect medicine to prevent depression. Go NOW to your supervisor (but really NOW) and book yourself a day off. I would say for tomorrow right away. Trouble Tuesday, remember? My advice, do get up on time, sit on the couch with your duvet, binge your favorite series again, and every hour think about what all your colleagues are doing at that moment. Believe me, it helps.

Make your vacation book. Since you have that day off anyway. Just go to hema.nl or Apple or whatever you want. An hour of work and you have a fantastic photo book that reminds you of the time when the sun was still shining. I would say, turn that photo of you lying on your air mattress in your infinity pool into a mouse pad and a wallpaper for my part. And then especially don’t look outside, okay?

Feu de Bois by Dyptique. The best scented candle out there that smells like a crackling fireplace. Somehow the scent feels a bit out of place in summer, but when you burn it now, you’re almost glad it’s autumn.

Deny. When you come home soaked from work, you close the curtains, set the heating to 25 degrees, put Café del Mar on your Spotify, put on your Missoni kaftan, and make a Mojito for yourself.

The checked jacket from Isabel Marant. Or her tweed coat with leather belt, or the alpaca sweater. Actually, it’s maakt alles van Isabel Marant a good idea to get into the autumn mood.

Book a new vacation. Just like with love, when one is over, there’s only one way to find comfort. A new one. Book now. It helps you through every thunderstorm.

A brand new agenda. A fresh work or school year has its charm too. Buy a clean notebook and a crisp new agenda. Organization will be your middle name this autumn. And of course, you immediately write all your vacations in it, you understand.
