TIPS FOR A PICK-ME-UP

During a long run (runs longer than an hour and a half) I always have ‘gels’ in the back pocket of my running shorts. A slippery chemical substance that gives you a huge energy kick. The taste is ant- and ant-sweet and actually quite disgusting. Yet I really need it, otherwise you can't keep it up for long. Well, sometimes I also crave such a gel when I'm dozing off behind my computer. Of course, I don't do that, because it's not necessarily very healthy for your body. Besides ‘just not going to bed too late’ I give you tips for a pick-me-up during the day.

  • Have a glass of tonic. Trust me, you'll be bouncing right away.
  • Do you have to make a lot of calls for work? Then do it standing up. This stretches more muscles and your breathing becomes deeper so that more oxygen-rich blood flows to your brain.
  • Make a green smoothie with a lot of spinach, for example this. Spinach contains iron, which you really need to avoid feeling lethargic and tired.
  • Drink a cup of broth or buy a packet of miso soup at the health store and prepare it with boiling water. It contains a lot of salt which makes you more active.
  • Go for a walk, just a small block around. You'll really feel better. And if the sun is shining, it also helps to catch some rays. It gives you energy, makes you happy, and you also get more in the mood for sex.
  • Eat a banana, it gives you an instant energy boost. It contains a lot of carbohydrates, but don't be afraid of that. They are actually multiple types of carbohydrates and good sugars that immediately enter your blood, giving you energy. I would say, go for that banana!
