THINGS WE LOVE
– Scooter –
As you know, I have a little bike in Amsterdam and I am really happy with it. It is incredibly ugly, but it takes me everywhere and when I am on my bike in the city, I am at my happiest. Even if I have to bike for over an hour to get to the other side of the city for a press presentation. I really don't complain about it, because yes, on my bike I am the happiest and it is one of my best friends, so you don't just put that aside.
The only thing I occasionally complain about is the fact that I am out for about three hours while it actually only concerns a half-hour presentation. And since a bike with a motor is a bit too much for me, Jet came up with the brilliant idea of the scooter. I politely declined it the first year. Not because I wanted to dismiss my bike, more because I just really didn't dare to step on that scooter. I am not very handy with technical means of transport, so a scooter didn't seem like the best plan to me.
Until last year when Formentera you could choose between a bike and a scooter. Since scooters are somewhat iconic on that island, we had to, and it turned out I was quite good at it. In fact: I found it quite fun to twist that handle to go faster and speed around that island. To the hilarity of my friend who had to sit behind me because I really didn't want to give up the driver's seat.
Since then, I have become quite fond of scooters. I jump on with Jet or Tessa (our design intern) and am just taken to the location. Twice as fun and twice as fast compared to the bike. I personally haven't touched the scooter, or actually according to Jet's words: the Scoot, in Amsterdam yet. Biking in the city is exciting enough (think tram tracks where you get stuck and think of clueless cyclists who don't know the way), let alone what a scooter would do to me. But who knows, maybe I will become friends with the scooter. Thanks to Jet and Tessa, the friendship is already blooming and growing, and who knows, that might happen to me soon too.
