FROM HAIR DISASTER TO HAIR MAGIC

– Floor Kleyne and her magic tricks –

In the meantime, I've shared quite a bit of trouble and cursing about my hair with you. Because where it started with a well-colored haircut and perfect bangs, a month later I was a copper whistling kettle with bangs that were too long and me and my hair were no longer a match. So after avoiding a hairdresser for four months, I thought it was time for a makeover.

Floor Kleyne is the coolest hair stylist I know and I can definitely call her a magician. She is a creative team member at Salon B and a creative educator at B academy, because she can't keep all those skills to herself. Furthermore, Floor works for fashion and beauty shoots for magazines, works backstage at Fashion Weeks, and styles the hair of celebrities like Victoria Koblenko, Anna Drijver and Jett Rebel. So I definitely find her a magician in time management, because I think it's a miracle that she manages to combine all of this. And that she still had a spot in her schedule for me too, because oh my god, how I was looking forward to a haircut from Floor.

My colleagues found it all quite exciting, because May and Daan thought my hair had never looked so good as it did now. I found it a bit tricky myself, because in my opinion my hair hung incredibly dull and boring along my face. Dilemma. But I chose Floor. Because Floor knew what to do and I was really up for it.

Now I know Floor from the industry, but it's not a deeply rooted friendship yet, although that would be quite nice. Before she puts the scissors in your hair, she first chats with you about your clothing style, style icons, your hair history, and other fun things. That's nice, because an average hairdresser immediately puts scissors in your hair, while Floor takes her time. And during that chat, you can see all the gears in Floor's head turning, because all sorts of nice creative ideas come to her. That resulted in an incredibly sexy haircut for me, with flapping and waving hair and volume à la Brigitte Bardot and the texture of Alexa Chung. Sounds like the best plan to me, because I love Parisian beauty and Alexa Chung is my favorite person, so all of that comes together quite nicely.

The hair is of course washed first. Lying down, mind you. You don't get as much pain in your neck and you relax so much that you almost fall asleep. After washing, Floor opens her magical suitcase and pulls out the set of magical scissors. With a special technique, she cuts a bit more volume into the hair, so that not only the volume is at the bottom of the hair, but also at the top. Hello Brigitte. A few snips and there she is. Literally, because after three snips, Floor is going to blow-dry my hair and then the volume really comes out. Now you might think that all of this is very artistic, but actually the cutting only really begins after the blow-out. According to Floor, you can best cut hair dry, because only then do you see how the hair really forms and falls. I found all of that quite exciting, because I'm not very skilled with hair tools and I also don't have time in the morning to blow-dry for an hour, but according to Floor, I don't need to worry about that.*

Alright. So it's dry and the first cuts are in. Then Floor's magical hands get to work, because from that moment on she starts looking at all the strands in the hair and what she is going to add to the overall haircut. Because of that, she occasionally cuts in some shape, and believe me, that's seriously a kind of magic power that is unleashed. From her magical suitcase, which she drags along to every haircut or styling appointment, she conjures up some nice scissors and perfect creams, which only help to achieve the perfect result. I can really see my hair changing from hair disaster to hair magic by the minute. Look, I see Brigitte becoming friends with Alexa and it becomes one big cozy and especially stylish affair.

With some final tips & tricks, because yes, I need to be able to do it at home too, we wrap up the styling session. Hairspray is the golden tip, because you spray it in your hand and then knead it into your hair. This way, it doesn't fall out so quickly, you don't get a greasy layer on your hair, and you can activate it throughout the day, giving you volume again.

*Now let me come back to the ‘home care plan’. Because yes, that's a nerve-wracking moment. Does it look as good the next day, two days later, and then still as good as right after the visit to Floor? The answer is yes. I hardly have to work on it, it looks perfect, and hairspray is my new best friend. Okay Floor, for now I'm going to enjoy this beauty immensely, and in two months the next scissors can go in and your golden hands can wave again. But for now; my name is Josselin Brigitte Alexa Bijl and I have the coolest hairstyle in the country. Bye and thanks!
