Hoe je je haar doet

Today we dive into the royal spheres. Don't be afraid, it won't be a stately and prim look because I believe that Máxima and Kate have proven that it can all be very different and the Beatrix bun is a thing of the past. No, we're going for a classic up-do with a twist of now. Melissa from The Building AMS will do it for you at the Express Bar in a few minutes, but if you want to create the hair-do yourself, we've also filmed it.

Was it all a bit too fast? Here’s the detailed version so you know exactly how to do it all yourself. Or rather, you must do it. You'll surely step out the door with royal charm.

Step 1

Prep the hair

When doing an up-do, it's always important to prep the hair well with, for example, the Fashion Waves Spray from Redken. You then dry it with a hairdryer. This makes the hair feel a bit stiffer and thus easier to work with. Especially for an updo.

STEP 2

twisting

Divide the hair into two sections. Secure the lower part of the hair with a hair elastic. Then twist the ponytail. Secure it with a mini elastic, so it actually stays in place. The twisted ponytail is loosely secured as a bun with a bunch of bobby pins.

STAP 3

curls

Now you will work on the upper part of your hair. Make a parting where you want it. In the middle is very royal, but it’s just a matter of preference. Curl the upper part of your hair, tease it a bit, and secure this part again with a hair elastic. Hair elastics are very handy because they keep the hair much tighter (and thus longer) in place.

STAP 4

twisting

The ponytail you just made from the upper part will be twisted again. You actually do this in the same way as you did in step two. This is also secured with hairpins. Why don't you do it all at once? Simple, you want to keep the volume on your head, so it's better to work on it separately, making the bun look more interesting.

STEP 5

 Finishing touch

A royal look doesn't mean it has to be boring and stately. Run your hands through your hair and loosen it up a bit. It doesn't all have to be so neat. Ready to go.
