As you know, we are in L.A. for the filming of Holland’s Next Top Model. And in case you are wondering if it’s true that everyone in Los Angeles is ‘somebody’, I can say; that’s true.

The tricky part is that not everyone is on the cover of People, but is still famous. For example, I didn’t recognize Mauricio Umansky (the incredibly wealthy realtor and husband of Kyle Richards). But you might not immediately shout ‘hey there he is’ if you saw John Denver’s songwriter sitting at the table next to you.

I certainly don’t have a strong celebrity radar (once sat next to Kanye at hotel Le Meurice without realizing anything) and besides, a person simply can’t know everyone. You should just remember this fact as you read the rest of this piece.

Anouk and I had a day off and were craving ‘something iconic’. And also something with a beach. And let’s not forget, with white wine. Now I have to tell you that in L.A. you don’t have nice beach bars like we have in Europe. Where you can lie around for hours stinking on a bed with a cocktail in your hand. But the hotel ‘Shutters on the Beach’ came close.

It had five stars and a view of the beach. The only downside was that only five tables fit on the terrace, so when we finally secured a spot, we decided to stay there for a while. To our right sat a man speaking with a charming Irish accent. At his table were two blondes and a brunette, of whom the blonde turned out to be his wife.

After a white wine, he asked us where we were from. “From the country that gave us God???” The man almost danced off the terrace when he heard we were Dutch. What turned out. The man in question was heavily in love with Dennis Bergkamp. Anouk, never one to shy away from a joke, said: “You mean my brother?”

Then the best man moved a table over and ranted for an hour about his best penalties and the moment Bergkamp scored the best goal ever for Arsenal against Newcastle. If you really want to see it, you can here click here. Wine was ordered and Anouk was bombarded with questions about her famous “brother”.

Because in the case of lies, you have to stay as close to the truth as possible, Anouk told him she was here for Holland’s Next Top Model and that I was there as a judge. Let’s follow each other on Twitter, was his suggestion.

Despite the two glasses of wine, I immediately saw it very clearly. This best man had 4.5 million followers. So we were definitely dealing with a case of ‘somebody’.

It turned out to be Piers Morgan, writer, journalist, and judge on Britain’s and America’s Got Talent. Somehow, we found it a pleasant idea to get out of there as quickly as possible.

The next morning, Anouk received a DM on Twitter. Right, from Piers. “It was really nice meeting you, but Dennis Bergkamp appears to have three brothers and no sister. Did I miss something?”

Anouk didn’t know what to reply for a moment, realized she was in L.A., and wrote to him: “I always wanted to go into acting. You think I’ll have a shot?”
