I've been walking around for a week with a belly full of oliebollen, appelflappen, and champagne. Not a big deal, but I always start the year with a mini detox and definitely not on January 1st, because I was really completely hungover, so I ate another cold oliebollen, a piece of lasagna that was left over from the New Year's dinner; so I actually tackled all the leftovers that were left.
A detox doesn't have to be as extreme as you think. You don't have to jump straight into juices or anything. I sometimes do a detox for a day and that means for me no sugar, no coffee (which I never drink, so that's easy), no animal products, and no fast carbohydrates like white pasta. Does it already sound too complicated? Don't worry, I'll explain it to you and take what you find interesting. Nothing is mandatory!
Important
Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Green tea or boiling water with ginger is also perfect for a little cleansing of your body. Ginger helps to cleanse your liver and kidneys a bit and it's good for digestion. And that's what you want, right? It needs to come out. The waste products that are released during a detox also need to be eliminated.
So drink a lot.
Good morning
A A green breakfast doesn't sound like a treat to everyone. I can understand that. You don't necessarily crave spinach or kale when you just get out of bed. Still, I can recommend it to you, because you get an incredible amount of energy from it and you can really go for a few hours on this. Just a few pieces of fruit will make you hungry very quickly, and from granola that has a lot of sugar in it, you'll only get hungrier.
Here, I'll give you a delicious green smoothie where you really don't taste the vegetables.
This for example. Or this.
What is also delicious and incredibly nutritious is a bowl of porridge. Especially now in winter, a hearty breakfast is very welcome.
Here's what you need and how to make it:
- almond milk
– 1 banana
– raisins
– cinnamon
– flaxseed
Put a small pot of almond milk on the heat. You can choose sweetened or unsweetened milk. Add 3 tablespoons of oatmeal to the pot and stir it well into the milk. It shouldn’t boil, but it should get quite hot. After 3 minutes, lower the heat and let it simmer for a bit.
Meanwhile, put slices of banana together with some raisins in a bowl.
The porridge should have thickened after 5 minutes and the oats should be soft. Pour the porridge into the bowl with banana and top it off with cinnamon and flaxseed.
For lunch
Go for a deliciously filled salad. Otherwise, also read this this post. In this, I write about foods that have a cleansing effect.
For example, make a salad with grilled vegetables, asparagus, artichoke hearts, cherry tomatoes, and some baby spinach. A bit of olive oil and balsamic vinegar and you can really go for a whole day. Or do you know what else you can eat for lunch? My all-time favorite pumpkin soup.
In between
When I'm hungry, I often spread a rice cake with hummus or cottage cheese, but let's also skip dairy products for now. Take a handful of nuts, a piece of fruit, or half an avocado with a bit of lemon juice and salt. Super filling and super healthy.
Dinner
I love quinoa. In the wok, I add a lot of vegetables, an onion, some garlic, and then stir it all together. A little soy sauce, some fresh herbs, and you're done.
Even more goodness
Take a sauna. Sweat out all the toxins from your body or take a yoga class; that's also great for letting your body relax for a bit.
So, and then you've had a lovely detox day. Oh yes, also no alcohol, okay? You understand that.
