SHAKE IT AWAY!

with Ellemieke Vermolen

I am a mom full of energy. That has been different at times. A few years ago, I really felt incredibly tired all the time, every day when the alarm went off I thought: no, already?! I dragged myself through the day. After a blood test, it turned out that I had mononucleosis. During that period, I was doing the hormone factor trainer course by Ralph Moorman. This study really opened my eyes regarding nutrition, exercise, stress, and balance.

I now try to live as much as possible according to the hormone factor, which means little to no gluten and lactose. And I exercise regularly! I now live according to the 80/20 rule.

I train three to four times a week. Once spinning (cycling), once strength training, once Pilates, and once yoga.

Sometimes I replace cycling with jogging, depending on the weather. Yoga is my favorite by the way. Every Monday, after I drop the boys off at school, I drive to my yoga class. It consists of a small group of a maximum of five girls. After the class, I feel reborn and can handle the whole week.

What always gives me an instant boost is a good shake. Sometimes I only drink juices, sometimes until 2 PM, and sometimes only in the morning. That does me good and gives me energy.

Here is my favorite shake:

What do you need?

– 1 grapefruit
– half a cucumber

– half a zucchini
– a generous handful of kale, 2 large leaves
– 1 lemon
– 3 cm ginger
– 1 SMALL pinch of cayenne pepper

Preparation

Put all the vegetables and fruit in the slow juicer, pour the juice into a cup, and add the cayenne pepper. Stir well.
You can also make this shake in a blender, but first squeeze the grapefruit and lemon.
