SMASHING AND SPARKLING
This is how you can't go wrong with glitter
During the holidays, glitter makeup is actually not even a question. It's more of an obligation. It just doesn't mean you have to dip yourself in a glitter pot, because no one is happy with a walking disco ball. Glitter is good, but you can also overdo it and then it becomes rather classy quite tacky. So to keep it all a bit organized, I’m now listing the do’s and don’ts for you.
Choose one accent
You either go for glitter eyeliner and at most some glitter eyeshadow, or for a hugely glittering lip. Or an eyebrow or a good glitter on the cheeks instead of blush. But doing it all at once is both a waste of glitter and just somewhat over the top. You’re better off focusing on one thing and doing that really well.
Take your shoulders into account
Shoulders, that’s a different story. They are separate from your face. So if you’ve thought of a focal point on your face, you can still add a little glitter on your shoulders or collarbone. That provides contour and especially draws chic attention to your décolletage.
Glitter accessory
For me, glitter in outfits can never be enough. I’m a bit of a Fred Paillet who gets happy from every little glitter. And since your hair is totally separate from your makeup look, you can also add an accessory here. Really, it’s possible.
Manicure
Despite the fact that glitter nail polish is really hell to remove, the feeling of finger jewelry is so worth it. And preferably each nail a different polish. With glitter, that’s allowed. I suggest going for a soft pink glitter or black glitter. Because green glitters and red sparkle are actually only good for a few days and those have already passed.
Highlighting everything at once
Even though there’s no rule about where to apply glitter, you do need to be precise. Glitter flies everywhere and before you know it, your whole face is covered. A face full of glitter is not a fantasy look, no, it’s more alien-worthy. That’s not good and definitely not what you want.
Body glitter
Of course, you can put some glitter on your shoulders and cheekbones. I just gave the necessary permission for that. But also be careful with excessive application here. You don’t want to give someone a New Year’s hug and then see the other person as a walking disco ball. You should actually see glitter as a virus. It’s fine for yourself, but you don’t need to infect others with it.
Glitter in your hair
You’re better off choosing a hair accessory with glitter than a spray can that sprays glitter in your hair. Brush through it and the glitter will then be forever in your brush. That’s not fun, because you want to keep it limited to the holidays, at most another costume party next year, but not to a business meeting on Monday morning. And take it from me: glitter doesn’t just disappear after one wash in the shower drain, you know. It takes a while.
