Last weekend I was in London. Just for fun and for the food. Two months in advance, the best tables at Hakkasan and Nobu were already reserved. For those who know those restaurants, I know, insanely expensive. To compensate a bit, we stayed in an Airbnb and not in the (insane) The Hoxton and I had not bought any clothes for weeks I hadn't bought any clothes. I never save on food. Of course, we also had plenty of lunch and brunch, and I will share my favorite hotspots with you.
First, a bit about the accommodation. So I slept in this Airbnb and it was the cutest apartment ever. Located in the super neighborhood Shoreditch; very young hip London gathers there. We slept in a little house in the living room, which is really very romantic. There was also a sofa bed in the space, so you can easily stay there with four people. Sexytime you might have to skip a night, that's true. Okay, now about the food. Everything is actually in the Shoreditch neighborhood, to keep it a bit organized and because London is too big to see all neighborhoods in one weekend.
The Hoxton
Even if you don't have a room there, it's still incredibly hip & happening to go there. In the evening, for example, for a cocktail or in the afternoon for brunch. We did the latter. The granola is homemade, the scrambled eggs so creamy (exactly what I needed) and the eggs Benny (Benedict, that is) were perfectly poached. The staff walks around in trendy denim dresses or slim fit shirts with jeans. You can flop down on leather sofas and grab a book from the shelf, dive into the photo booth, or just hang out endlessly in the restaurant, and that's what we did.
Pizza East
This is the place where hipsters eat and where you don't necessarily get shocked by the bill. That's nice sometimes. The pizzas are super, so very thin, you know. You can join at three locations in London, namely in Shoreditch, Kentish Town, and Portobello. I find a spot at the bar the coziest when you're with two, anyway, eating at a bar is the most fun for me. On Sundays they also serve Sunday Roast, which will please the man greatly.
Albion Cafe
Albion Cafe is really nice for breakfast, especially if you have a spot on the small terrace. It's located in a quiet street, but enough well-dressed Londoners walk by on their way to Soho House (which is right next door): a hotel with a rooftop for members only. Way too cool. Albion Cafe also has a bakery, and you should definitely walk over to the display case to see all the delicious glazed pudding buns and muffins.
Tramshed – Chicken and steak
The name says it all. I go for the chicken, he always goes for the steak. The little chicken with a beer can in its backside is so tender and a funny sight to see. But actually, you should mainly come here for the space. It's so beautiful, industrial, light, and gigantic, and in the middle of the place stands a gigantic cow with a little chicken on its back. Very impressive and also quite cute. There is also a nice bar where you can eat.
Andina
Oh, this is also so nice. They make amazing Peruvian food here. I had never eaten Peruvian before, I must honestly admit, and I have also never seen such beautifully colorful food and such delicious smoothies. The menu is full of gluten-free dishes, in case you really need that.
