6 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE CHANEL MÉTIERS
D’ART SHOW IN PARIS
In case you missed it yesterday (perhaps you were too busy with this fashion show); yesterday, Chanel's Métiers d’Art show took place in the most beautiful paradise in the city of romance: the Ritz. A lunch with some of the most important people in fashion, plenty of celebs, and of course the latest splendor from the creative brain cells of Mr. Lagerfeld. Here’s how it went down:
The Fresh Princess
To get into the Chanel spirit, Willow Smith performed the night before. She has long left her ‘I whip my hair back and forth’ era behind and went for romantic acoustic songs.
Puttin’ on the Ritz
And from Willow Smith, we moved on to maestro Michel Gaubert who arranged the music for the show. “And you don’t know where to go to, why don’t you go where fashion sits, puttin’ on the Ritz.” So fitting and oh so delightful.
Star-studded models
Cara Delevingne is ba-haack. The British muse of Karl Lagerfeld opened the show and there was also a newbie on the runway. Well, newbie, we all know her pretty face from the Chanel No. 5 L’Eau ad, but yesterday Lily-Rose Depp made her debut. And let’s talk about Pharrell, because he also walked the runway. He left his famous top hat at home and wore a dubious blonde bun on his head. At least, I first thought it was a bun, but it turned out to be a golden kippah, a head covering worn by Jewish men.
A touch of Paris
The collection breathed Parisian chic as we are used to from Karl. Think tweed suits topped with layers of pearls. The beauty look was quite natural but remained romantic; white eyeliner with an assortment of light pink and black colored flowers in the hair.
On the foot
Karl shows that we are far from done with over-the-knee boots. Preferably in black or in hot hot pink.
A lesson in history
Look, this is why I love May so much, because she just gave me a mini history lesson on Chanel . Once, Chanel bought all the craftsmanship houses because they were threatened with ‘extinction’. These companies (which specialize in embroidery, lace, buttons, and hats) are honored by Chanel once a year in this exclusive show.
After Paris, Rome, Edinburgh, Mumbai, and New York, I’m curious what the next destination is for the show. Perhaps Amsterdam, Karl?
