We can vote again. No, the high omens in The Hague still have to wait a bit. I'm talking about the word of the year. Van Dale collects quite remarkable words and we have the honor of choosing one as the supreme word of the year. Brexodus, pokémon terror, cheating seed, home terrorist or bully vlogger. I gladly cross out the last one, because let's not give that creature a name, please. And home terrorist sounds like someone is crafting something scary with household tools. Cheating seed then? Well, that's a potential. The subject is in our favor, because seed. And cheating is definitely a tasty one among the words.

But with that news, the seniors among the words are fading into oblivion (ha, how delightfully old is that?). I find it quite a shame, because the Dutch language is rich in fine things, I must say. Therefore, I advocate for the reuse of these elderly words in our language.

Belatafeld

I know this golden oldie from back in the day (god, how old does that sound). Or I would get completely belatafeld (or hit by Lotje, it just depended on how it turned out). You are belatafeld if you skip Net-A-Porter in the sale, I hereby adopt it. And look here by the way, how you outline that sale strategy.

Dame du ton

But just a moment, this sounds much better than fashionista, right? Dame du ton means chic, fashionable woman. Hallelujah, it's nice.

Rambling

Look, those bully vloggers just ramble on. You don't need a new word for that, because what they say hits like a dick on a drum set. Hey hello, I feel a to-be-continued in absurd sayings coming on.

“Cheating seed then?”

Wet greedy

This is the desire for alcoholic drinks. Damn, we can do something with that. That you shout around four o'clock on a Friday afternoon how wet greedy you are. Ha, it sounds a bit dirty, but the outcome is nice.

Achenebbisj

Just for the ishhh, what you then write as isj. And if you say it with a heavy Rotterdam accent, you get a standing ovation from me.

In general

‘Do you actually know that Gigi was in the Netherlands’ or ‘do you even know that Gigi was in the Netherlands’? Yes, you feel that, right? With 'even' you really missed something, but actually it comes off a bit cowardly.

House dove

This is you if you spend your week binge-watching Netflix between four walls or if you just spend a lot of time in the home zone. I had no idea that there were so many house doves.

Yes, yes, it originally comes from a German, but it's nice that it is. It says much more than uncomfortable. I feel a bit unheimisch. It gives instant swing to your dubious feeling (dubious, another one we should use more often).
