7X YOU WANT TO DO THIS WHEN YOU'RE IN CHICAGO
Sure, you still owe me this. Because my Icelandair trip to Chicago was particularly insane (read here but) and you probably want to know where you have the best view of the city and can score the thickest pancakes.
And that's why here are 7 cool spots in a row:
1. Millennium Park
Without a doubt one of the most famous parks in the city. With dozens of cool spots, fountains, and an insane amount of greenery. The main attraction of the park is the Cloud Gate, a silver artwork in the shape of a kind of kidney bean, where I certainly entertained myself for 20 minutes with all sorts of ridiculous selfies.
Where? 201 E Randolph St., Chicago, IL 60602.
2. Little Goat Diner
At this typical American diner with a Breakfast at Tiffany’s vibe, it’s already packed with Americans wanting to score breakfast on a random Saturday at half past 8. Recommended are the blueberry pancakes and the ‘Fat Elvis Peanut Butter Waffles’. Furthermore, DO NOT think about that name, just eat it.
Where? 820 W Randolph St., Chicago, IL 60607.
3. John Hancock Tower
For an insane view over the city, you go to this 344-meter high skyscraper with 100 floors. In the elevator, you are shot up into the air at rocket speed without feeling it. Oh, and on this 44th floor is the highest swimming pool in the United States. Cool Instagram posts guaranteed.
Where? 875 N Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL 60611.
4. Grace
Okay, let’s be fair: the chance that you can afford a table in the three-Michelin-star restaurant (ouch, at least 500 dollars per person) is not that great. Still, it’s really worth stepping inside just for a tour of the restaurant and to hear the bizarre life story of the chef. Or you can also just Netflix turn it on of course. And watch the documentary For Grace, you’ll be just as involved.
Where? 652 W Randolph St, Chicago, IL 60661.
5. Architecture River Cruise
I don’t know what it is, but I always take the best photos on a boat. It might cost around 40 dollars, but then you get to enjoy an hour and a half of boating while surrounded by the tallest buildings you’ve ever seen.
Where? The largest company offering this boat tour is First Lady Cruises. They are located at the southwest corner of the Michigan Avenue Bridge at Wacker Drive. The boat is gigantic and has a blue sail.
6. Pull a cupcake from the vending machine at Sprinkles
Pink, glitter, cinnamon, red velvet, you know you want it. And also read here why taking Dunkin’ Donuts home is a less good idea.
Where? 50 E Walton St, Chicago, IL 60611.
Damn, I would have loved to see a hundred more things, but the press trip was unfortunately a bit too short for that. But now that I’ve felt the Chicago vibe, I have a very good reason to go back. And quickly a bit.
