THE WEDDING HAIR DIARIES
#5 Summer Chique
The wedding virus has really taken off in the editorial office, just look here and here for a moment. Last week, our Carolien stepped into the wedding boat and she has let us enjoy it for weeks. Are we falling into a black hole? Nah, no need. We still have a few things on our agenda. And that you, dear readers, are not just sitting on your lazy backsides was evident when we made a call for brides. From that came 8 incredibly fun tutorials that protect us from that black hole, satisfy our hunger for love, and also ensure that our looks are always wedding-proof. Because yes, the road to the wedding is quite a journey. An enchanting dress, those comfy and oh-so-cool mules underneath, a beauty look that leaves nothing to chance, and decorations that make Kim K.'s wedding look sad in comparison. That also requires a bridal hairstyle that perfectly completes the look. So no frumpy hairstyle with curls that have had a Roy Donders treatment, and preferably no rose hairpins and glitter spray. At The Building, you are at the right place. They give every bridal look a Olivia Palermo-swing and that way you can be sure that the photos in twenty years will at least not be a joke.
They transformed these ladies into enchanting princesses.
So here’s another new episode in the course ‘Getting Ready for the Wedding’. Take Stephanie, for example. Such a lovely bride who The Building came bouncing in. She is getting married in Amsterdam, wanted anything but the huge classic and prescribed wedding, and has therefore given everything an incredibly fun twist. A beautiful bridal dress for her, but one she can dance in until deep into the night. And pastel at her wedding? Preferably quite a bit of color. So a cool look was definitely in order. Flowing, summery, and extremely bridal-proof. Melissa from The Building got to work. She shows you how to create the look, I’ll write it down, and if you step into the boat like this cutie soon, you’ll know what to do.
First, divide the ponytail into two parts. First, make a ponytail with the lower section of hair. Tease the top for some extra volume. Then combine it into one big voluminous ponytail.
As a bride, you want your hair to stay in perfect shape all day long. No hassle with sagging, no fuss about putting pins back in place, you just want to not have to worry about anything. So prep your hair the right way. Make the hair a bit stiffer with a salt spray and blow-dry the product well to activate it.
Step 2: Sectioning
You are going to braid. But braiding requires good preparation. So make sure to section the hair well and determine where you ultimately want the braids to be.
Step 3: Braiding
Now make all loose, raised braids. Start at the top of the hairstyle to make the braids and work your way down, not the other way around. If it doesn’t work out perfectly, that’s no disaster.
Step 4: Combining
Finished braiding? Now combine everything. Tease the top of the hairstyle first and then braid everything in nicely. Use bobby pins to secure all those braids. And you definitely don’t want to see those bobby pins.
Step 5: Curling
Curl the strands at the front and incorporate them into the hair.
