Renée Vervoorn eand her husband Guy are perhaps the fittest couple in the country. That's not surprising with a private gym and a company that prepares the healthiest meals for you. Being fit and healthy is high on their list, but it all has to remain a bit cozy, and that's why I like Renée so much.
Where in the world is your favorite restaurant?
‘I have a shortlist of about 10 restaurants (everywhere and nowhere) that I really like to go to and eat. We recently visited Los Angeles and I loved that most restaurants have such an extensive menu, with a separate ‘skinny bitch’ menu. And even with such an extensive menu, they find it very okay (and normal) that you want adjustments. That customer focus and variety in delicious and clean dishes: I love it!
In Malibu, at the beach, we (my family and I) had lunch after a hike in the mountains at restaurant The Sunset, which served the most delicious lean fish tacos. Please take me back.’
And who would you really like to have dinner with? It can be anyone.
‘I prefer to dine with friends. I enjoy that immensely. Eating together, drinking good wine, talking about what is important to us, and having a lot of fun. As an entrepreneur and mother of two daughters, time for friends is scarce but extremely important. Finding peace at the table and having a good time together feels like a wealth. But an evening with Máxima at the table also seems delightful to me!’
Where in a restaurant do you prefer to sit?
‘At a high table or at the bar when I eat somewhere with my husband. Right in the midst of the hustle and bustle. I love people-watching. Or at a round table so that everyone is relatively ‘close’ together.’
What do you always hope is on a menu?
‘Good white wine and Veuve. That's how an evening starts off well.’
Do you find your way on the wine list?
‘On my bucket list is ‘to take a real wine course again’, so that I know even better what I want to drink and why. But I can find my way around a wine list. I now know that I like a heavier white wine made from oak-aged grapes. I also find a red Barolo delicious!’
Starter or dessert?
‘I’m not much of a sweet tooth. I do like to eat cheese as dessert, but I generally choose a starter.’
What fun project are you currently working on?
‘With cleanmeals.nl. Clean Meals are ready-made meals in optimal composition for anyone who likes to eat super healthy but doesn’t have the desire or time to spend hours in the kitchen. The meals are free from harmful E-numbers due to the unique preparation method and are still minimally two weeks shelf-stable in the refrigerator after delivery to your home (or at work). Ideal, therefore, to always have a number of Clean Meals in the fridge, so you always have healthy and lean food at home that is on the table in no time! And besides, I – together with two others – am working on a still ‘secret’ project, which we as we speak are investigating whether we (want to) set up in the Netherlands. I’ll keep you posted.’
