GET READY

The 7 most important trends for summer 2017

Today is the very last day of a packed fashion month that we have all dived into as a team. Elke and I flew to New York (read here just how crazy that was), Jos and Lilian ‘did’ London (voilà), I flew to Milan and Elke and Kiki had Paris on their menu. And then everyone always wants to know from me: what are the trends?

I always hesitate for a moment because there are so many different movements in fashion that you can no longer name three important things that we will all obediently wear. And when you're right in the middle of it, it can sometimes be hard to zoom out, but I managed to see the big lines that are most interesting for you.

Holiday prints

Seen at Milly, Max Mara (even with a sun visor), Tibi, Altuzarra, and of course Dolce & Gabbana, because even Maarten van Rossem gets cheerful from that show.

“What are the trends?”

1980s influences

From the good old days of lots of makeup and high hair to skirts where the sides are longer than the middle. And at the top of the list is the gathered skirt we saw at Marni.

The stripe (but just a little different) remains

Either it's extra wide, or there are different stripe directions in a design as we saw at Marc Jacobs, Ermanno Scervino, and Proenza Schouler.

Print on print remains a trend

So two different rather bold prints on top of each other like at Proenza Schouler. It's really not scary, just do it and you'll see how many compliments it rains.

Long skirts in all shapes

From stiffer and more voluminous to flowing hippie skirts. Seen at Marni, Valentino, and Etro.

The oversized hoodie

Nice American style and seen at Tommy Hilfiger and Lacoste.

“I'm already looking forward to it.”

The bathrobe and the bath slipper

Lacoste turned the bathrobe into a delightful fashion item. And that bath slipper, which peeked around the corner a few years ago in the old-fashioned Adidas shape we all wore when we went to shower at the campsite, remains, but gets crazier shapes. I saw it now from Miu Miu in pink plush adorned with pearls and that will stay...

Oversized

Large skirts, long sleeves, a voluminous blazer as seen at Marni and Michael Kors Collection.

Furthermore, the braid is still in, the bare shoulder (now preferably one shoulder bare rather than two) and we see a lot of skirts. Delightfully colorful and feminine...

I'm already looking forward to it.
